Dear Parents,
SUBJECT: SCHOOL UNIFORMS
The results of the school uniform vote have been tabulated. By a majority vote, 80.4%, Paint Branch ES will adopt a Mandatory School Uniform Dress Code Policy starting on the first day of school, August 20, 2007. As a result of this action, all students are expected to comply with this dress code during school and school-related activities. This UNIFORM POLICY will be enforced beginning next school year, 2007-2008. A letter discussing violations to this policy will be communicated at a later date.
Our school uniform policy will work in conjunction with the Prince George’s County Board of Education System-wide Student Dress Code, which states:
v Headdresses can be worn indoors for religious or health reasons only
v Shirts and blouses should be continuous from neckline to waist. The entire mid-section should not show. No tank tops and muscle shirts.
v No clothing with vulgar language, obscene pictures, weapons, drugs/alcohol or drug paraphernalia and tobacco products.
v No identifiable gang/crew clothing or paraphernalia.
v No see-through clothing.
v Skirts, dresses, and shorts must be approximately six (6) includes below the buttocks or no shorter than fingertip level.
v Pants should be secured at waist: no sagging below waist to expose undergarments.
v Shoes must be worn.
In an effort to be certain that all students and parents are aware of this dress code, our school wants to share it with you. Please review the following Student Dress Code carefully with your child/children to assure that they too are aware of its contents:

|
Solid white polo or oxford shirts with either long or short sleeves. |
|
|
Solid blue "V" neck, crew neck, or cardigan sweaters may be worn over the above shirts. |
|
|
All shirts shall be worn tucked into the bottoms with a belt visible. |
|
|
GIRLS: Solid
navy blue khaki-style uniform pants, pleated uniform skirts, pleated bottom
uniform jumpers, or khaki-style uniform shorts. (shorts, jumpers, and
skirts must be at least six (6) inches below buttocks or below fingertip
level – no capris, no flared legs);
BOYS: Solid navy blue khaki-style pants or khaki-style uniform shorts. |

tennis or dress shoes only. If shoes have shoelaces, they must be tied at
all times. SOLID BLACK ONLY!
|
|

Western style boots, construction shoes (Timberlands), Heelies, or sandals are not permitted. Snow boots may be worn only on snowy days provided the child could change into appropriate shoes once at school. |

Hats, sweat bands, bandannas, or other head apparel is not to be worn in the building, except for religious or medical reasons. |
Paint Branch Elementary PTA and the Uniform Selection Committee has worked with JUS’ 4 KIDZ in selecting the style of uniforms PBES students will wear. You may visit them in person or via the web at www.jus4kidz.com. We strongly urge you to visit the store so you can purchase the exact styles that have been selected to ensure you make the correct choice. We also have arranged for JUS’ 4 KIDZ to be at the school in late July with all styles and sizes so parents can come to the school to make their purchases. They carry both clothing and shoes (they will have both tennis and dress shoes that parents can order). A flier from JUS’ 4 KIDZ with a list of clothing items colors, sizes, and pricing is attached for your convenience.
The staff and PTA of Paint Branch would like to thank you for participating in this important decision. We are certain that the adoption of a Mandatory School Uniform Dress Code Policy will continue our efforts to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
Sincerely,
Edwin Saunders
Principal
