Our school wide reading incentive program is Ms. Rodgers Red Hot Readers.  This program is from September to May.

Red Hot Readers

The county guidelines state that all students should be reading every night as part of their homework.  Teachers are taking a grade on this homework assignment.  Primary students should read 15-30 minutes.  Intermediate students should read 30 – 60 minutes.  All students are expected to read at least 25 books independently. Please help your student accomplish this goal.

Princeton’s reading Recognition Program is Rodger’s Red Hot Readers. Each month students are required to complete a form(s) showing that they have read the required number of books. Parent’s signature for credit to be given. Correct punctuation and spelling is required for credit to be given to the child. Dates when the book has been completed and how many pages read are also required. Writing must be legible. Forms will be returned if incomplete and no credit will be given until the form is completed correctly. Students may use their own loose- leaf paper for Red Hot Readers.

There are a variety of awards. Each month a student may earn a different certificate and receive a box of “red hot” candies for being a “red hot” reader. Classes compete for ribbons to see which class can read the most books and have the most participation.

In October we started the Pizza Hut’s Book-It program. From October through March, each child will receive one personal pan pizza when they are a Red Hot Reader. That's right! I hope there are a lot of pizza and book lovers out there!!

Please encourage your child’s interest in reading to make it a life long love!

Readers are leaders!!

For the month of September we read 1,745 books. WOW!! What a GREAT start!!!!

2001/2002

There are different Red Hot Reader forms with different requirements.  A parent’s signature is required.  Writing must be legible and correct punctuation and capitalization must be used.  For example, the title of the book should be correctly written.  First and last names must be written on the forms.  Answers should be in complete sentences.  No nicknames please. Forms must be turned in by the due date in order to receive credit for that month.  If the forms are late, the child will be credited the next month.  Students in grades 3-6 should be reading trade books or chapter books.  There are chapter book forms for this purpose.  Students in second grade should now be reading short chapter books.  Second graders should be writing their own sentences.  All answers should indicate that the child understood the story and can give a brief summary of what happened.  First graders are encouraged to write their own responses.  All books should be on the child’s reading level.  Duplicate reading of the same book will only be counted as one book.  Encourage your child to read a variety of literature.
