Dear Parents and Guardians,

My name is Addie Salvo and I am the new school counselor at Robert Frost Elementary.  Since I am new at the school, I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and let you know about the services I will provide to your students through my counseling program.  My primary goal is to enhance the academic, career, and personal-social knowledge of all students.  I will provide a variety of counseling services including classroom lessons, and group and individual sessions.

Classroom Lessons

I will present lessons twice a month in each classroom that focus on character education.  All lessons will center on reinforcing the character word of the month.  Some examples of character words are: responsibility, respect, caring, trust, and citizenship.  In addition, I will instruct students on various topics that have been determined by the staff as an academic, career, or personal-social need for the students.

Group Counseling

In late September, I will offer opportunities for students to participate in a group counseling session.  The needs of the students will determine the type of groups that I will provide.  Some of the topics that I may cover are divorce, grief, study skills, social skills, stress management, anger management, and motivation.  Please contact me if you feel that your child would benefit from a small support group environment.

Individual Counseling

In order to help the students who may be experiencing a personal crisis, I will also provide individual counseling services.  I have placed counselor forms in all classrooms so the students have an opportunity to refer themselves to counseling.  If your child is experiencing a personal crisis, please keep me updated so that I can meet with them on an individual basis.

In addition to these services I will be sending home a quarterly newsletter including interesting articles and tips for you.  If you have any feedback on information that you would like me to include, please let me know and I will be happy to do so.  Moreover, I would like to have several activities for parents.  In the Spring I will have a sixth grade parent night focusing on the transition into middle school.  I would also appreciate any ideas that you might have as I prepare my parent program.  On the following page I am including a needs assessment to determine what type of information you would like me to cover in a meeting.

If you have any questions, comments, or feedback please feel free to contact me at 301-918-9782 or via email at Adelaide.Salvo@pgcps.org.  I look forward to working with you in the future.

Sincerely,

Addie Salvo
