Word of the Month for September

Respect This month the students at Robert Frost will learn about being respectful to others, themselves, and the environment.

ROSE is an easy way to remember the aspects of respect.

R= Respect

O=Others

S=Self

E=Environment

Throughout this month, read this passage and review examples with your child/children to help them learn about respect.

 “Respect is treating others the way that you would like to be treated.  When you respect other people, you show them that you value their feelings.  You can do this by playing fair, listening, and asking before borrowing something.  When you use kind words such as “please” and “thank you,” you are showing respect.  If you use a borrowed item carefully and return it to its owner, you are showing respect.

          You can also show respect for other people by accepting their differences.  A respectful person knows that no two people are alike and he accepts the differences between himself and others.  If someone looks different, talks differently, walks differently, or believes something different from you, you show respect by accepting the person and treating him the way you would want to be treated.

          It is important that you show respect for yourself with healthy habits.  You can take care of your body by eating good foods, brushing your teeth, and exercising.  You can take care of your mind by reading, doing your homework, and learning new things.

          Animals, the environment, your school, and natural resources also deserve respect.  By helping others to keep both outside and inside clean, you are respecting the homes of people and animals.  If you avoid wasting resources, you are showing respect for the environment and for others who many need those resources.”
