Outstanding Educator and
Support Staff in Prince George's County!
Congratulations to Ms. Heidi
Clifton, second grade teacher, and Mrs. Ann Starr, technology teacher, for
being named one of the 2009 Outstanding Educators and 2009 Outstanding
Support Staff in Prince George's County. Nominated by our staff for their
dedication and commitment to our school, colleagues, and children, Ms.
Clifton and Mrs. Starr are truly deserving of such esteemed recognition.
They will be honored at a private reception on May 14th.
Prince George's County
Teacher of the Year Semifinalists!
Congrats go out to Ms.
MaryBeth Bauernschub, media specialist, and Mrs.
Jessica Beamon, third grade teacher, for being nominated for and selected as
2 of 8 semifinalists for Prince George's County
"Teacher of the Year". They were honored at the
Teacher of the Year Reception at Newton White Mansion on Tuesday, April 21st, 2009.
We are extremely proud to have two exceptional educators as part of this
elite group.
BOWIE'S TEACHER OF THE YEAR!!!
Congrats go out to
Mrs. Jessica Beamon, third grade teacher, for being selected as City of
Bowie "Teacher of the Year" representing Rockledge. She will be honored
at the 24th Annual Excellence in Education Reception sponsored by the
City of Bowie on April 24, 2009. The City of Bowie Education Committee
sponsors this award as a way to publicly honor outstanding teachers in
the schools attended by Bowie youngsters. We are thrilled for Mrs.
Beamon, who is most deserving. She is an honored colleague and goes
above and beyond to serve the children of Rockledge.
 Mrs. Nancy Zipper
for being recognized as
Bowie's
Paraprofessional
of the Year!
Mrs. Zipper was nominated by
our entire staff and was selected from all of the paraprofessionals in the
city. She was selected because of her passion, commitment, and excellence to
the students in her care. We are proud to have Mrs.
Zipper as a Rockledge team member. She will be honored at the 24th Annual
Excellence in Education Reception sponsored by the City of Bowie on April
24, 2009.

FAMILY PORTAL HAS
ARRIVED!
Prince George’s County School’s has implemented a great way to keep track of
your child’s information called the Family Portal which is a part of
SchoolMax. You will be able to view your child’s attendance record, grades,
assignments, discipline, and schedule. This can all be accessed from your
home/office computer, 24/7. Rockledge will present and train parents during
a Family Portal Training Night. This will take place on Wednesday, May 6th.
We ask that parents of students in grades K-2 please attend from 7- 7:30 pm
and parents of students in grades 3-5, attend from 7:30-8:00 pm. If you have
children in both sessions, please just choose 1 session. Training will occur
in the computer lab. At these sessions, you will receive your family’s
Access Key to gain entry into the Family Portal. If you are not
able to pick up your Family Access Key, please stop by the Main Office at
Rockledge during normal school hours.

4TH GRADE DESTINATION
IMAGINATION TEAM!
for
coming in 1st place at the State competition in Towson, MD! They
are now advancing to the Global Competition in Knoxville, Tennessee!
We are very proud of their accomplishments! For more information, see our

Rockledge Writers ROCK Write-A-Book!
The 2008-2009 winners have
been announced. 26 books were entered and 10 placed! The authors will be
awarded at a ceremony on Sunday, May 3rd, at Eleanor Roosevelt High School
from 5pm-7pm. For a list of the winning entries, please see our April 24th
newsletter.
