Archived Photo Gallery #3 SY07-08 Northbay photo #1. During the week of June 2, some 50 sixth graders from Rosa Parks attended NorthBay, an environmental education center located on the Elk Neck Peninsula, at the northern end of the Chesapeake Bay. Comprised of 97 acres with 1/2 mile of beachfront, NorthBay operates through a partnership with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the Erickson Foundation of Baltimore. Curriculum reflects a hands-on, outdoor classroom approach with activities including kayaking, indoor and outdoor wall climbing, hiking, swimming, seine fishing, clamming, and mastering a zip line and ropes course. The $33 million state-of-the-art facility serves over 350 Maryland students weekly. Ms. Conaway, Ms. Francisco, Ms. Gardiner, Ms. Redmond, and Mr. Lynch chaperoned this trip. By Shenia Fields, Sixth Grade: NorthBay was a very great experience. I had fun but I still learned something on this great trip. We all searched for clams in the Chesapeake Bay. I kayaked on the Bay too. I faced my fears on the zip line. I enjoyed the Food 101 experience too because I learned what the difference between compost and what food waste is. I did not enjoy the Rope Course because we had to unclip ourselves to move on. I did not enjoy feeling seaweed in the Bay and also didn't enjoy seeing dead fish lying around on the beach. By Romare Marshall, Sixth Grade: I enjoyed NorthBay because it teaches you about life and what you need to be prepared for. I feel like I understand nature a lot more, because I got to identify and learn about trees, different fish, snakes and turkeys and black vultures. The best activity was riding a zip line into the water. I was nervous at first but while I was on it riding along, it was so much fun, I forgot that I was nervous. I will always remember this trip and my sixth grade classmates. By Bertold Kika, Sixth Grade: NorthBay was the most exciting camp I ever visited. It has clean cabins with five bunk beds and two showers with two bathrooms. On the first day we went kayaking and for dinner we had chicken wings, macaroni, soda or water or ice tea. We went to the theatre to watch a movie called Toobie. The movie taught us life lessons on how to make the right decisions. The other days we went swimming, fishing we played football, soccer, basketball, and freebies. The best part of the trip is the zip line on land and on water. What tops it off is that you can go to bed any time you want. Northbay photo #2. Northbay photo #3. Northbay photo #4. Northbay photo #5.
