Happy New Year!!!

I hope all of our families enjoyed the Winter Break and had the opportunity to share some special times with family and friends. I cannot believe we are half way through our school year. Before you know it these cold temperatures will have disappeared and we will be looking at the beautiful blossoms of Spring flowers.

As we begin the third quarter of our academic year, it is extremely important for our children to attend school everyday and on time. As you already know, attendance is a major part of our school reaching Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). The Rosa Parks' staff cannot do it without the continued support of our parents, I know you will not let us down!

Our children will be facing an increase in the academic rigor that is provided at Rosa Parks Elementary. I thank the parents and students for the support given for completing the Winter Packets. Our children stood by their commitments and completed the required assignments. Thank you to our boys and girls for showing that extra effort during the break. We must continue to encourage our children to strive for their right to reach academic excellence.

The children will experience many opportunities within the next couple of months to exhibit their knowledge and skills learned. We are gearing up for our Kindergarten- First Grade Assessments, Scholastic Reading Inventory Assessments (grades 2nd -6th), and last but not least our third through sixth grade students will be taking the Maryland School Assessments in Reading, Mathematics, and Science (Grade 5 only). The fifth grade students will have the opportunity to showcase their Science skills on the Prince George's County Science Benchmark scheduled the week of January 14th-18th. So, parents and guardians as you can see we have a lot of learning and assessments that will continue to occur at Rosa Parks. It is imperative for our children to attend school daily. Just like good athletes, we must continue to grow as we showcase our knowledge and skills during the playoff season. Yes, we will show the world that Rosa L. Parks Elementary School is the best place to have your child educated. Thanks to you, our children, and wonderful staff I have the honor of leading such a dynamic team. GO TITANS! ~Mrs. Adesegun

Learning is a lifetime investment. Think about the deposits you have made in your child's education:

  • Have you assisted your child in completing their monthly Book-It Logs?
  • Is your child reading at least 20 minutes each night?
  • Is your child coming to school on time consistently?
  • Is your child completing their daily homework assignments?
  • Have you met with your child's teacher to discuss their academic progress?
  • When was the last time you hugged your child and told them you love them?

We encourage you to continue asking reflective questions in order to monitor your child's progress and work with our staff to improve student achievement.

Parents are encouraged to remind the students to walk on the main roads to school each day. We can ensure our children's safety if the students follow the directions of the crossing guards. Students will not be allowed to walk through the community parks as a means of a short-cut. Adult supervision will not be available in those areas.

Students should arrive no earlier than 7:30 A.M. Adult supervision will not be available before 7:30 A.M. Students walking to school should report to the blacktop area.
