We would like to thank everyone that is helping to make this partnership possible for our children. Our children will get that extra help that he Or she needs with their reading and writing skills. The classes will be held one Saturday each month at Northwestern High School from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM . If you want more information about this program, please contact Mrs. Jackson at 301-445-8090 PTA Q & A Question: What does PTA stands for and what does it do? Answer: PTA stands for Parent Teacher Association. We represent our students and parents of our school. Here we can voice our concerns and we can ask questions and give ideas of events we can do for our school, but most importantly we can help our students by volunteering to make things possible. It is important to get involved in our children' s education by volunteering to help either in the school or help with events. It would mean a lot to everyone. There are many ways that you can help; especially bilingual volunteers are greatly needed. Question: What do you need to do if you want to become a PTA member? Answer: All you have to do is fill out our member form and there is a membership fee of $5.00 per family and yearly. Question: What does a PTA member do? Answer: There are many things a PTA member can do. You can give your children 30 minutes to one hour a day to make a difference. You can volunteer in the school, helping in the classroom or in the lunchroom. You can help with special after school activities or special function. You can also help by getting the word out to our parents about events that we will be having, by getting parents here so they also can get involved in their children's education. We also need supporters; if you want to ask a business to support by donating or giving the PTA discounts, that will also help. Funds are also needed. Without funds we cannot do those special activities and events that we want to do for our children. There are many other things that a member can do. For more information leave a note in the PTA box in the main office. Please be aware you must be fingerprinted or get a criminal back round check if you want to volunteer or go on field trips with the children. You can get this done at Rosa Parks on November 1, 2007 at 7:00 P.M. or you can go to the Board of Education in Upper Marlboro, MD. There is a $8.00 fee for the fingerprints or a $66.00 fee for the back round check and fingerprints. Question: Can our children change on P.E. days or wear something else? Answer: On P.E. days and only on P.E. days the students can come to school wearing black sweat pants and tennis shoes. We understand that their uniforms are expensive. If you do not know what days your child has P.E. ask your child and or their teacher. Question: Who is on the Executive Board?
