RAM Celebrations:
-
Congratulations
to our Black Saga Club members and their club sponsor, Mrs.
Wright Key, for the exciting Black Saga Competition held
recently at Ogle. Our students, organized by teams named for
historically black colleges, demonstrated their knowledge and
teamwork. The Howard University Team, Alexis Ojeda, Ayana
Crutchfield, and Cameron Jenkins and the Meharry Medical College
team, Michael Robinson, Susie Smith, and Summer Robinson have
advanced to the State Competition at Towson University on March
8th. Go Rams!
-
Congratulations
to our Student Government Association (SGA) and their sponsor,
Mrs. Bartolomeo, for the fun filled school dance held recently
at Ogle. The decorations and music were great, and our students
had a terrific time. Special thanks to the PTSO for providing
the snacks and beverages and to our teacher and parent
chaperones without whom the evening would not have been a
success.
-
Thanks go to the
PTSO for sponsoring our MSA Parent Information Workshop during
the January PTSO general membership meeting. Our teachers, Mrs.
Marshall, Mrs. Pumphrey, Mr. Ellwood, Ms. Akinbulumo, Mrs.
Mathis, and Ms. McGill, provided an overview of the
instructional process, academic expectations, and rubric scoring
in the core curriculum areas of reading, mathematics, science,
and social studies. In addition, they suggested methods parents
can use to provide support for students at home using the
Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) website as a
resource. If you were unable to attend and would like to access
the MSDE website, go to
www.mdk12.org and follow the links for detailed
information.
RAM Reminders:

Eighth graders
are invited to the Bowie High School Curriculum and Showcase
Night at the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday,

and learn about the high school’s academics, clubs, and sports.
This is a great opportunity that you won’t want to miss.
-
During the week
of February 19th, all students not currently enrolled
in Algebra or Geometry will take the Orlean’s Hannah Algebra
readiness test. The Orlean’s Hannah results will be used to
help determine mathematics class placement for the 2008-2009
school year. Please be sure that your child arrives at school
on time for testing and has a good night’s rest and a nutritious
breakfast in order to do his or her best during testing.
Detailed information about test dates will be sent home later
this month.
-
During the week
of February 25th, students enrolled in Algebra will
take the Algebra HSA pre-test to measure their preparedness for
the upcoming HSA. Please be sure that your child arrives at
school on time for testing and has a good night’s rest and a

The Samuel Ogle
Middle School Counseling Department is sponsoring a Hat and
Glove Drive to benefit the Samuel Ogle student community, the
Warm Nights Shelter in Bowie, and the Laurel Advocacy and
Referral Services (LARS). Please be generous and donate new
hats and gloves to those less fortunate in our community.
Students who donate a total of 10 or more hats or pairs of
gloves will receive one community service credit for high school
graduation. Donations will be accepted through February 8th
for this worthy cause.
-
Winter Intramural
basketball has begun. Please encourage your child to
participate in this fun athletic activity under the supervision
of Mr. Eccles during our after school program. Intramurals are
open to all students in grades six through eight, and interested
students must return the signed Permission to Participate forms
to the office.
-
All teachers at
Samuel Ogle use
www.schoolnotes.com to enhance our home-school
communication. They include homework, class information, and
long-term project information for each class. Please access the
