RAM Celebrations:

  • Congratulations to our instrumental students who performed at the Bowie Cluster Concert last week.  Miss Perron did an outstanding job preparing our students for the event, and our students will remember the opportunity for a lifetime.

  • Kudos to our Environmental Club for their continued work in recycling paper at our school.  With the support of Mrs. Jones and Ms. Akinbulumo, our students collect and recycle hundreds of pounds of paper monthly.  Good work!

  • Congratulations to the many students whose wonderful academic work is displayed in our many classrooms and hallways.  Teachers display the work that demonstrates student effort and achievement, and the variety around the school is outstanding.  I encourage you to visit our school and look at our displays.

RAM Reminders:

  • Third Quarter Progress Reports were released last week.  Please review your child’s academic progress with him/her.  Celebrate successes and set goals for improvement as needed.  There is time to put forth more effort and ask teachers for help in order to improve academic grades.  The third quarter ends on March 13th.  Please contact teachers directly by phone at 301-805-2641 or by email which is available through www.schoolnotes.com for suggestions and assistance.  Together, each child can be successful.

  • On Wednesday, February 20th, all students not currently enrolled in Algebra or Geometry will take the Orlean’s Hannah Algebra readiness test.  The Orlean’s Hannah results will be used to help determine mathematics class placement for the 2008-2009 school year.  Please be sure that your child arrives at school on time for testing and has a good night’s rest and a nutritious breakfast in order to do his or her best during testing.

  • On Tuesday, February 26th, students enrolled in Algebra will take the Algebra HSA pre-test to measure their preparedness for the upcoming HSA.  Please be sure that your child arrives at school on time for testing and has a good night’s rest and a nutritious breakfast in order to do his or her best during testing.

  • Eighth graders will register for ninth grade classes with Bowie High School counselors at Samuel Ogle Middle School on Thursday, February 28th and Friday, February 29th.  Please be sure that your eighth grader has completed and submitted the class selection paperwork to Mrs. Bartolomeo.

  • The National Junior Honor Society Induction ceremony will be held on Wednesday, February 27th at 7:00 PM in the multipurpose room.  This is a memorable event for our inductees, and I look forward to seeing the students and their families there.

  • The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Xi Zeta Omega Chapter 2008 Black History Youth Oratorical and Arts Contest will be held Sunday, February 24th at 2:00 PM at Howard University’s Blackburn Center.  Mrs. Wright Key, our teacher sponsor, has submitted our students’ essays, poetry, speeches, and visual arts work.  This is an exciting event, and I feel confident that Samuel Ogle students will represent our school and community with distinction.

  • Winter Intramural basketball is underway.  Please encourage your child to participate in this fun athletic activity under the supervision of Mr. Eccles during our after school program.   Intramurals are open to all students in grades six through eight, and interested students must return the signed Permission to Participate forms to the office.  During the week of February 25th, indoor soccer will be offered, and students are encouraged to participate.

  • Please adhere to our parking lot rules as you drop off and pick up students at school.  Students who arrive by car must exit the vehicle on the right side of the car in our drop off area and enter the building through the walkers’ entrance.  Students who are picked up from school by car must enter the vehicle on the right side of the car in our pick up area.  Parents may not park in the drop off/pick up area, and those who park in the parking lot must escort their children to and from the building.  To ensure all students’ safety, no child may walk across the driveway during arrival or dismissal unless accompanied by a parent.

 RAM Parent Opportunities:

  • The Region IV Parent Workshop is scheduled for March 10th from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at James Madison Middle School.  Topics will include quarterly curriculum updates, student success strategies, and strategies that can be used at home to support students’ learning.  I encourage you to attend these informative sessions.
