Student Bill of Rights
Hello Parents & Students,
My name is Mrs. Carol Von der Linden. I am your school counselor. I am available to help you and your children have a successful school year. As your school counselor, I will work with parents and students in many ways through a program of many services. Each service is aimed at helping children learn and develop to their highest potential. Some of the services in the School Counseling Program are:
Groups to help children learn how to cope.
Individual sessions to help children adjust to school/home.
Classroom lessons to help children learn how to get along with others.
Groups for parents to share and learn ways to communicate with their children.
Conferences for parents to learn about their children's progress in school.
Conferences for teachers concerning their students.
These are only a few of the services I offer you and your children. If your have questions or wish to see me about your children please call me at 301-497-3994.
I have a right to be happy in my room.
This means that no one will laugh at me or hurt my feelings.
It means I will be treated fairly by the students and teachers.
I have a right to be myself.
This means that no one will treat me unfairly because I am a boy or girl, fat or thin, tall or short, black, white, red, or yellow.
It means I can express my ideas and my feelings without feeling embarrassed or being made fun of, or being criticized, or being interrupted.
I have a right to feel safe in this room.
This means that no one will hit me, kick me, pinch me, push me, or hurt me.
I have a right to work in this room peacefully.
This means no one will yell, scream, shout, or make loud noises.
It means that I can ask questions if I don't understand.
I have a right to my own things.
This means that I am fee to put something on, in, or under my desk without having it touched unless I give permission.
I have a right to some free time.
This means I must use my time wisely, so that I can read, or even daydream if I want to, after my assigned work is completed.
I realize that because I have these rights, so do all other children, and teachers, and I will treat them the way I wish them to treat me!
