Bus, Walker and Car-rider Concerns
Bus Riders: Please make sure to speak with your children about proper behavior while riding the school bus to and from school. Although the majority of our students display wonderful behavior each day, we have had several buses return to school due to inappropriate behavior by various students. Negative behaviors include:
Not listening to the driver
Not remaining seated
Using abusive language towards the driver and other students
Fighting or verbally abusing children & bus driver
Disruptive behavior at the bus stop
Destructive behavior to bus seats, isles and windows
We know that parents do not encourage their children to act in this manner. Because we are very concerned with the safety of our students, we will take appropriate measures in order to provide a safe and comfortable ride for all students. Consequences could be but are not limited to the following:
Detention Hall (during school hours)
Parent conferences
Conferences with driver and Bus Lot supervisor
Bus suspensions (short & long-term)
School suspensions
Loss of special events and activities
Students are NOT allowed to act in an abusive manner nor are they allowed to switch buses or travel from bus stop to bus stop. They must ride their county assigned bus and go to the appropriate bus stop each day. Working together, we can provide the best environment for transporting our students to school.
Walker issues: we are still having students running into the street once they have left our school grounds. Most of the incidents have been reported at the 4-way stop area located near the community pool. Please advise your children to walk on the sidewalk at all times and only cross where the School crossing guard is located. Walkers must be aware of the following behavior expectations:
Respect the Crossing Guard or designee
Stay on the sidewalk at ALL times
Walk directly home after dismissal (do not stop to play or socialize)
Do not fight or play (includes play fighting of any kind or games)
Do not throw objects of any kind to or at anyone
Do not push or hit others
Never run or push someone into the street!
Always cross at the crosswalk (or where Crossing Guard is located)
Do not bother other children physically or verbally
*Walkers will be subject to the same reinforcements & consequences provided in the event a negative behavior or incident occurs (See section for bus riders)
Car-riders: Thank you for not pulling into the bus circle during school hours. We are still having parents double park during morning drop-off and blocking the area in which people are able to leave the school parking lot. In some cases, staff members who are concerned with the safety of our students; are being confronted in negative tones. Please understand that we are only trying to provide the safest manner in which to ensure each child is able to come to school without the possibility of being harmed by a moving motor vehicle.
Do not pull into the semi-circle during school hours
Do not block the entrance and exit to the semi-circle at anytime
Only unload children from your car in areas designated by the school as drop-off zones (sidewalk next to parking lot only)
Use respectful communication when talking to staff members on bus duty
Never allow your child to cross the street from the parking lot alone. Parents/guardians need to walk with them at all times.
Be courteous towards your fellow car drivers (Please be patient with each other. We know that people have places to go and people to see. But, we must still be safety minded at all times)
