A Word From Mrs. Prevost

Epiphany Forleh from Mr. Sarich's 4th Grade class will be performing with the PGC Elementary School Honors Chorus (200 in total) at the Kennedy Center Sunday, November 29th and will be joined by the Middle/High School Honors Choruses and County High School Honors Band & Orchestra.  Join us for a spectacular program.  Tickets range from $10 to $23.  The performance begins at 3 pm in the Concert Hall.  See you there.

A big thank you goes out to the "American Education Week" Committee for organizing and preparing the many activities which were held this week.  It was great to see so many parents who took advantage of "Parent Visitation Day" which was held this past Tuesday.  We appreciate your support.

As we approach the Thanksgiving Break, there are many families who may not be as thankful as others.  The economy has made many of us change the way spend money.   You don't have to spend money in order to make your family happy.  It is my hope that all of us can express our thanks and gratitude by simply spending quality time with our family.

Thank you to those parents/guardians that have already returned the 2009-2010 Federal Impact Aid Surveys (blue form).  If you have not yet done so, please complete and return the blue form to our school by Tuesday, November 24, 2009.  Last year, there were thousands of Pupil-Parent Survey Forms not returned.  This significantly reduces funds that are available to our school system.  We are asking that you make every effort to reduce the number of outstanding forms.

The Book Fair is Back!  Beginning December 7th-11th, the students will have an opportunity to visit the Scholastic bookfair to purchase a book or other merchandise.  If you are able to donate anytime to help with the bookfair, please call the school and leave a message for Lisa Peelan, Bookfair Chairperson.

The Winter Break is just around the corner.  With that in mind, our annual Winter Concert will take place Wednesday, December 16th.  We will have two morning programs (Pre-K thru 3rd @ 8:20 AM and 4th-6th @ 9:15 AM).  An evening presentation for our parents will take place at 7:00 PM.

Our first quarter awards assembly will take place the morning of Thursday, December 10th. The times are as follow:

·   8:15am –8:45am - 4th, 5th and 6th Grades

·   8:45am – 9:15am - 2nd  – 3rd Grades

·   9:15am – 9:45 am - Kindergarten through 2nd Grade

All visitors are welcome in the building.  Please sign in at the office and receive a visitor’s badge before proceeding down the hall.  Teachers are not allowed to hold a conference while they are on hall duty or on instructional time.  If you would like to meet with your child’s teacher, please leave a message in the office or you may email them.

Have a peaceful and restful Thanksgiving Break.

Mrs. Tracie Prevost

COUNSELOR CORNER – Carol von der Linden

INDIVIDUAL LEARNING PLANS “ILP” - As you know, our Superintendent, Dr. Hite, has asked all counselors in Prince George's County Schools to meet with each student and parent each year to discuss future educational, college, and career goals.  This is a great way for parents and counselors to work together to ensure our children's future success.  This year I began working with third graders and their parents.  At this time, all of our third graders have an updated ILP.  I am currently working on giving all fourth graders an updated ILP.   If you have a child in fourth grade, and would like to be part of this conversation with your child and the counselor, please contact me.  My email address is carolv@pgcps.org.  Appointments take approximately 45 minutes, and can be scheduled during the school day on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays during regular school hours or immediately after school, at 2:20.  If you are unable to attend because of your work schedule, please contact me and let me know that I may go forward with the ILP without you, and that you would be willing to discuss the ILP at home that evening with your child.  This is an open opportunity for you to have this conversation with the counselor, if you are able.  When you come for the ILP for your fourth grader, we can do the ILP for siblings in other grades at that time, or schedule for another date.

I hope to be meeting with you soon!
