Mission
The Center for Visual & Performing Arts challenges students to develop their technical skills, personal confidence, discipline, and critical thinking skills while exploring the arts. Students eventually major in one of four principle concentrations: music, dance, theatre, and visual arts. Students prepare for acceptance to a university art program or a professional school of art while completing a challenging concentration of academic work that meets the Maryland State graduation requirements. In addition, a strong association with the arts in the Washington, D.C. area offers distinct advantages. Students study with professional artists, dancers, actors, musicians, singers, directors/producers, and radio and television personalities.
Audition Process
Students are required to memorize a two-minute monologue from a published play and prepare it for presentation. Students are also asked to participate in pantomime and improvisation during the audition process.
