Quarterly Benchmark Assessments

Quarterly Benchmark Assessments are designed to measure the degree to which students have learned the skills and/or content specified by the objectives of the county curriculum. These assessments in reading and mathematics, grades 3 through 8, provide data from which teachers can make instructional adjustments for individual students and classroom instructional management. The Quarterly Benchmark Assessments are administered to all students in grades 3-8 as well as students that are taking Algebra I, Biology, English 2 and LSN Government.  The Benchmarks are aligned with the countywide curriculum frameworks and Voluntary State Curriculum.

DATA Reported AND SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE:
Schools have access to students' scores for each indicator assessed, as well as overall scores for each test. The scores reflect the percentage of questions answered correctly.

The PGCPS Benchmarks are designed to help students prepare for the Maryland State Assessment that is given each spring. Test results are used to help teachers determine if a student has masterted the assessed indicators, determine students' strengths and weaknesses, help give aid to those teachers having difficulty achieving their objectives, and identify diagnostic information about the school and school system's curriculum.
