"NorthBay is a residential environmental learning center designed to introduce students to the exciting field of environmental science through immersion into that environment, and simultaneously give each student a profound experience in leadership and character development. It offers participation in outdoor experiences and focuses on ecology and science, personal growth, team building, and outdoor adventure experiences."

What are the NorthBay Objectives?
Students will learn methods of sampling, data collection, identifying problems, questioning techniques, and methods for formulating how students solve problems in their environment.

What are the instructional strategies are used during the NorthBay experience?

The program features the following strategies:

  • Prior knowledge development
  • Vocabulary development
  • Before, during and after reading and research techniques; practice
  • Follow-up studies
  • Real world connections to conceptual applications through various communications

What training is provided for the instructors?

The following training is provided:

  • Training and presenting introductory materials prior to the visit
  • Keyhole Pro Technology training for follow-up student activities
  • Develop project objectives at the site, then follow-up at school site
  • Integrating literacy and mathematics in the science curriculum
  • Short term/long term data gathering and research skills
