TJMS 2009-2010 Mandatory Dress Code

Acceptable (students CAN wear this)

Unacceptable (students CANNOT wear this)

*Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken when
students do not adhere to mandatory uniform dress code.

Shirts/Tops

7th Grade – Royal blue polo shirt with a collar

8th Grade – yellow (MAIZE) polo shirt with a collar

*Students can ONLY wear the color designated for their grade level

*On days when it is cold, students can a wear a
turtleneck that is the color of their grade level polo shirt under their regular polo shirt.

* All undershirts should be preferably white and worn under the shirt and cannot be visible.

* ALL students, boys and girls, MUST tuck in their shirts
Shirts/Tops

T-shirts are NOT acceptable.

Shirts MUST be plain in color for each grade level.

Shirts/blouses cannot have any piping, embroidery, designs, logos, characters, names or numbers of any size.

Sleeveless blouses, fish net, crop type, v-necks, or halters are NOT acceptable.

Undershirts and tee-shirts should not be visible out of sleeves of shirts (don’t allow the shirt to hang lower than the actual shirt being worn)

Students are NOT permitted to wear jackets with hoods.

No sleeveless shirts, tops, fish net, crop tops, v-neck, halters, undershirts, or tee-shirts are allowed.

Students CANNOT wear another color shirt in lieu of their uniform shirt.
Other tops

All sweaters and cardigans must be worn over the uniform shirt.

All outerwear (fleece, sweaters, etc, must be the color of the student’s grade level.

If a student wears a V-neck sweater, it must be the same color of their grade level shirt.
Other tops

May not fall past waist (MUST be tucked in)

Cannot have a hood, zipper, designs, logos, characters, names or numbers of any size.

Jackets or coats may not be worn in class and must be kept in your locker.

Shirts cannot be see-through, knit, low-cut, or revealing of flesh. Flesh or undergarments cannot be shown.
Belts

For ALL students: If the pants have belt loops, a belt MUST be worn at all times. Belts should be plain (solid) black and must have a basic size buckle.

Belts must be 2 1⁄4 in length or width
Belt buckles must be silver or gold. No other color is acceptable.

No belts that are colorful, with designs, or with large buckles is acceptable.

Shoes

Plain (solid) black

Stripe or insignia must be the same color as the tennis shoe being worn.

Shoe laces must be the same color of the shoe being worn.

Must be fully enclosed

Boots can be worn ONLY when there is a snow day and during inclement weather.

Hard-bottom shoes are HIGHLY discouraged due to safety and Physical Education. During P.E., students CANNOT wear hard-bottom shoes

*NIKE boots OR those that are like NIKE boots are acceptable as long as they are in solid black and DO NOT have a hard sole or heel.

Shoes

Tennis shoes with the roller blade made within the sole of the shoe

Shoes may not contain colored stripes, additional colors, characters, names, letters, designer insignias of any size

Wearing snow boots when there is no snow

Wear boots in the building

No sandals, slippers, or flip-flops. Both feet must be covered. No open-toe shoes.

Pants, Shorts, Skorts, or Skirts

(Tan) Khaki in color

Uniform Pants MUST be worn SECURELY around the waist with a belt.

Shorts should be of appropriate length (no shorter than 2 inches above the knee)

Shorts or pants must have a finished bottom (no cut-offs)

Skirts or skorts must be appropriate for the size of the student and for school (no shorter than 2 inches above the knee)

*There will be special days designated for special dress opportunities, such as for Young Men of Standard and Young Ladies of Excellence.

*Students can purchase, at their expense, a polo, collared shirt with the school’s mascot and can be worn as a uniform shirt.

Pants, Shorts, Skorts, or Skirts

No cut-off pants or shorts

No splitting or cutting of shorts or pants at the hem or bottom

Pants MUST be worn on the waist. Sagging and baggy pants or shorts will NOT be accepted and will result in disciplinary action

No sweat pants

No cargo pants (pants with pockets on the sides)

No pants with characters, letters, numbers, and designs of any size are allowed.

Pants cannot be rolled up or tucked into shoes, boots, or socks

Pants or shorts with patches

Mini skirts and skirts or skorts with splits will not be allowed.

Skirts that do not have a finished hem or bottom
No Capri, bell-bottom, or hip-huggers are NOT allowed

No jeans, unless permitted by administration

Socks or Hosiery

Solid white or solid black socks can be worn.

Ankle or shin length socks are acceptable when a student wears pants only.

Socks should be visible above the shoes when wearing shorts.
Socks or Hosiery

Socks cannot have characters, multi-color print, designs, cutouts, holes, names, anything dangling or logos

No fish net stockings are allowed
Jewelry and Accessories

Neck jewelry is discouraged, but, if worn, CANNOT be visible and MUST be worn INSIDE of student’s shirt.

Earrings CANNOT be larger than a dime and CANNOT extend no further than one (1) inch below the earlobe.


No more than two rings (one per hand can be worn)
Jewelry and Accessories

Jewelry should not pose a safety hazard. When it does, the student will remove it and will be confiscated by an administrator. Rings that are deemed inappropriate or too large for school are NOT permitted and will be removed.

No pinned buttons

Bracelets, charms, may not be replicas of weapons or contraband.

Bangles

Body Piercing (face, tongue, more than 1 hole on each ear)

Wearing of rings on several fingers at one time will not be allowed.

Displaying gold and silver teeth mouth pieces .
Hair Accessories and Cuts/Styles

Ribbons, barrettes, pony tails, beads are acceptable (please minimize). When this becomes excessive, the student will be asked to minimize the excessiveness.

Hair jewelry is NOT encouraged and hairstyles MUST be appropriate for children in middle school. Mature and distractive styles will not be accepted.
Hair Accessories and Cuts/Styles

Headbands, hats, bandanas, scarves, do-rags, skull caps, strings

No picks or combs in hair

Emblems, designs, numbers, characters, etc cut in hair are NOT appropriate.

Hairstyles that are distracting and those that draw attention from the purpose of school

Colored Hair (Natural hair color/texture is acceptable)

Excessive designs cut into the head are NOT acceptable. A basic part is acceptable.
Physical Education

Solid Royal blue shorts. No other color is acceptable.

Plain White T-shirts

Plain (solid) black tennis shoes/solid black or white socks.
Physical Education

Any colored shorts other than solid blue are NOT acceptable.

Any other colored T-shirt other than a Plain white T-shirt is NOT acceptable.

No colored socks and shoes
