SCHOLARSHIP • CHARACTER • INTEGRITY

July 23, 2008

Greetings to all Thomas Johnson Students and Parents/Guardians:

Welcome to a new and exciting school year. I am Dr. Michael Robinson, and I am the PROUD new principal of Thomas Johnson Middle School. I have been in education for approximately 16 years having worked K-12 as well as at the collegiate level. My only mission is to ensure that every scholar, in every class, every day is provided with a premier, high-quality education.

As we embark upon a new year, I am most elated to be working with you. Thomas Johnson is a school that will become a lighthouse for other schools in our district, state, and abroad. I am working, along with other staff members, to seek the best educators that we can find in order to provide our students with a student-centered learning culture. Students will be challenged this year to reach their fullest potential, as teachers will be preparing lessons that are researched-based, inclusive of best practices, data-driven, and focused on the learning styles and interests of their students.

Through on-going collaboration and professional development, the staff and I will work together to identify those areas of improvement for our school. The school improvement and Alternative Governance (AG) plans will be the driving force for our instructional programs. I will be looking forward to opportunities where I can meet with parents/guardians and receive and share ideas that will continue to take the school to the next level. In addition, I encourage our parents/guardians to please attend workshops, meetings, PTSA, conferences, and other opportunities that will foster the relationship between the home, the school, and the community.

Please look for times and locations of events in the Jaguar Express, which will be our school’s newsletter. This will be one of the ways that the school, the community, and the home will be in consistent communication.

Attached is a copy of the outlined expectations for students’ uniforms. I am asking for the cooperation of all parents/guardians in supporting the school’s endeavor to ensure that Thomas Johnson continues to remain a uniformed school.

Please mark your calendars for the following dates and times:
