Elementary K-5 Programs

1st Grade: You Are My Sunshine (60 min)

When little Patrick gets a bad case of sunburn he mistakenly wishes that the Earth didn’t even have a Sun. Join Patrick and his friends as they discover how our wonderful sun heats and lights the Earth, helps plants to grow, keeps solar system planets in orbit, provides power and even makes it possible for us to see the moon. Program activities will also interactively teach students how to prevent sunburn.

2nd Grade: A Place Called Home (60 min or 75 min)

Your live-visit will have students use two observational tools they embody. Yes! Our session encourages your second graders to rely heavily on their sight and their hearing to assist in identifying the subjects of nature-displayed in the habitats we highlight in our program. Be delighted by having us pique your students' (and your) curiosity, test their memory-recall,... and maybe even enlighten some-with our featured animal exposures. A program designed to delight your visual palette - sharing footage of farm friends from Southern Maryland.

Performance Expectation: 2-LS4-1 Biological Evolution: Unity and Diversity

3rd Grade: Magic Tree House- Space Mission

Magic Tree House: Space Mission is a story based upon the Magic Tree House series written by Mary Pope Osbourne. It takes the main characters, Jack and Annie, on an adventure to learn many different facts about space and the tools used for space exploration (space probes). They also hear from a real astronaut, Kathryn Thornton, who shares some of her experiences from living and working in space. Students are encouraged to apply what they know about weather and climate on Earth to predict what the climate is on Venus, Earth’s Moon, Mars, Jupiter’s moon, Europa, and Neptune. They use the criteria shared by Astronaut Thornton to make decisions on the top five items they should bring with them to space. Finally, they take a tour around the world to see how the diverse patterns of weather and climates make Earth a special place.

4th Grade: A Preferred Choice (60 or 75 min)- Virtual

Journey with us as we prepare to drop in the midst of a weather alert, which brings about torrential rains and quickly gives way to a sloppy, soggy, floody mess! During our field trip, students prepare for a flood event, then are requested to assist another by using criteria and constraints to provide the best solution for the scenerios they experienced. So, hop on aboard and register your class for events that give way to this localized, natural Earth-changing disaster on humans! (PE 4-ESS3.2)

5th Grade: Destination Mars (60 min)

Students analyze data from rovers or small robots on the two moons of Mars – Deimos and Phobos – to decide which moon is better for a base. Something goes wrong with one of the rovers/robots collecting data and students work together to fix the issue.
