    What is Title I?

    Title I is a federally funded program that provides financial assistance to local school systems and schools with high percentages of low-income families to support the academic achievement of disadvantaged students.

    The purpose of Title I is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high quality education and meet challenging state academic standards. The restricted grant funds provide supplementary funding to improve the teaching and learning of children. 

     The Academy at Andrew Jackson Title I Funds: 

    • Instructional Staffing

    • Substitutes used for professional development, collaborative planning and data utilization meetings Professional development activities and supplies   
    • Parent training/workshops/ activities and supplies   
    • Instructional materials/supplies   
    • Technology related to instruction   
    • Extended Learning programs (After school, Saturday, Summer) for lowest performing students and related expenditures (i.e., teacher salaries, students snacks, and transportation)   
    • Local field trip admission and entrance fees directly related to the curriculum   
    • Snacks for students in Extended Learning programs and for parent trainings.

    Title I Programs 

     Extended Learning Opportunities (ELO)

    Students in grades 1 – 8 participate in an extended learning program. During this time, students receive additional instruction on topics that were taught during the school day, complete homework assignments and use our 2 web based programs.

     To monitor student achievement in Reading, the program uses Achieve3000 which is a web based individualized learning solution scientifically proven to accelerate reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing proficiency and performance on high stakes tests. Achieve3000 instruction provides a high interest topic scientifically matched to each student's individual Lexile reading level and has a reporting and management system that allows teachers to use performance data to inform instruction.and also have access to both programs at home.
