• Tuesday, January 22, 2019 — PGCPS — Code Orange: PGCPS schools and offices will open with a two-hour delay.

    EMERGENCY PERSONNEL must report to work on time and are not eligible for liberal leave.

    • There will be no work-study transportation. (Those students should not report to school.)
    • There will be no half-day Early Childhood Center (ECC), half-day Special Education Programs, or half-day PreK.
    • Any other school program requiring transportation prior to 12 noon will NOT have transportation, including Howard B. Owens Science Center, JA Finance Park, and William S. Schmidt Center (Camp Schmidt)
    • All field trips will be cancelled.
    • Food Services will offer breakfast.
    We will re-evaluate at 6:30 a.m.

    Statement from PGCPS Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kevin M. Maxwell on Reappointment

    I am gratified and humbled by Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker’s decision to reappoint me to a second term at the helm of this great school system. Prince George’s County is my home. Prince George’s County Public Schools is the place where I was educated and where I began my career. I remain committed to the children of Prince George’s County and excited to work alongside my colleagues as we continue our focus on high academic achievement, safe learning environments and effective leadership. I would also like to express my deep appreciation to the members of the Prince George’s County Board of Education for your partnership in service to our students and community. I look forward to our continued collaboration. 

    Statement from Prince George’s County Board of Education on Reappointment of PGCPS Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kevin M. Maxwell

    The Board of Education supports Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker’s decision to reappoint Dr. Kevin M. Maxwell to another term as Chief Executive Officer.

    We believe that the continuous improvement and growth of our school system is best served by having Dr. Maxwell at the helm. Dr. Maxwell is moving the system forward and improving student outcomes. Dr. Maxwell and the Board of Education have more work to do in accelerating student academic growth, addressing educational equity and sharing our successes and challenges with the entire community. As we move forward to provide our students with great opportunities and a rigorous educational experience, the Board looks forward to collaborating and engaging with Dr. Maxwell to make our school system one that County residents hold in the highest regard.
