Five elementary schools are kicking off the new year with praise from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) for excellence in gifted and talented education!

Capitol Heights, Longfields, Glenarden Woods, Montpelier and Vansville elementary schools earned the 2018 MSDE Excellence in Gifted & Talented Education (EGATE) award.

A five-year certification, EGATE requires schools to document how their programs are aligned with the state's gifted and talented education criteria. New EGATE schools will be recognized at a statewide reception hosted by the MSDE Gifted and Talented Advisory Council in February.

PGCPS currently offers students in second through eighth grades an advanced, enriched and accelerated classroom experience through its full-day Talented and Gifted (TAG) centers in eight elementary schools and four middle schools.

All students are tested for TAG qualification in grades 1 and 3. TAG-identified students must apply through a lottery.

The TAG lottery application is now open for the 2019-2020 school year. The deadline to apply is March 12.

Private and homeschool students interested in TAG must complete an application, assessment and enter the lottery. Learn more about the process and key dates for private/ homeschool students.
