Will Professional School Counselors be available?

Yes. Professional School Counselors will provide classroom guidance lessons and individual counseling between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Counselors will provide counseling services for students with IEPs, 504 plans and for general education students.

Will mental health support be available?

Yes. Psychologists will provide consultation services for students and parents between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Psychologists will provide support to students as documented on a student’s section 504 plan and to general education students.

Will children be able to get meals at food sites for the rest of the school year?

Yes. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are available weekdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at more than 40 schools throughout the County. School system staff will be on hand to distribute meals in the cafeteria or parking lot depending on the weather. Students may pick up all three meals, which may include cold cereal, a sack lunch, fruit and milk, in one visit. Parents and guardians are not required to accompany students nor are students required to show ID. Parents may pick up meals, but should have a student ID or report card with them if the student is not present. See full list of meal sites here.


What about end-of-year activities for high school seniors?

Our graduating high school seniors have unique needs as they prepare to embark on their next academic journey. We know how much end-of-year senior activities mean to our students and families. All prom and graduation ceremonies will be postponed. We will work with venues to reschedule these events.

Will Before and After School Extended Learning Program (BASELP) payments still be due through the end of the school year?

The MySchoolBucks store for Before and After School Extended Learning Program (BASELP) has been temporarily closed.  No invoices or alerts for payments will be sent from MySchoolBucks until regular operations are resumed. If you have not made the payment due on March 23, 2020, you do not need to do anything at this time.  We are working with the vendor to alter the invoicing for tuition and late payments.

What will happen to student meal account balances?

Meal payment portal MySchoolBucks cannot issue refunds for payments made through the MySchoolBucks website or mobile app. Existing funds may be used once school is back in session or parents may request a refund once school is back in session.

What about Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams?

Many students are scheduled to take Advanced Placement exams in May. The College Board announced that in-person tests will be replaced by online exams. We will make sure that every student has access to the requisite technology — computer, tablet or smartphone — to complete these important exams. Many of our schools also host International Baccalaureate programs, known as IB. Those exams, also scheduled for May, are now cancelled. Students will not need to take the exam to receive an IB diploma or certificate of completion.

What will happen to the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP)?

Due to the disrupted school year, the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program, which administers statewide assessments for third grade through high school students, will not be given this spring nor be required for graduation.
