    Dear Kenmoor Family,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at Kenmoor Middle School. Our academic program challenges and prepares students to be college and career ready. Our project-based classroom instruction promotes problem solving, higher-order thinking and skill development in all students while keeping them engaged. At Kenmoor, we offer advanced classes for our highly motivated, well-prepared students that earn them high school credits. Kenmoor Middle School was the first school to receive the Maryland State Department of Education recognition “Excellence in Gifted and Talented Education” (E-Gate) award and the first school in Maryland to be re-certified.

Every teacher that stands in front of your child is certified and has high expectations for your student. Every student is required to be respectful, well behaved and exercise self-discipline at all times. Successful students complete two (2) hours of homework, reading and studying every night, attend school daily, are well rested and ready to put forth their best effort.

At Kenmoor, we have a “Positive Behavior Intervention Support” (PBIS) program that rewards students for good grades, regular attendance, respectful attitudes and excellent behavior as well as compliance with the student dress code. Opportunities abound for the “whole child” at Kenmoor Middle School. We offer interscholastic sports, and a variety of clubs, as well as the Harry Rose Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, Student Government Association and Destination Imagination teams. We host winning debate, science bowl, geography bee, spelling bee and robotics teams.

New sixth, seventh and eighth grade student orientation will take place on August 31st, 2018.  This will be their first day of school. It will be a great opportunity for students who are new to Kenmoor to become familiar with the school building, their teachers and their daily schedule. PTA membership is $5 for students and teachers, $10 Individual adult and $15 for a family. Agenda books are sold at the school for $5. It is our hope that everyone  will support the PTA this year and become an engaged partner. You will receive information by mail about your students' bus schedule from transportation or you can call 301-952-6570.

The first official day of school for all students will be Tuesday, September 4, 2018. Our school hours are: 9:30 am — 4:10 pm and our doors open at 9:00 a.m. daily for students eating breakfast which is when adult supervision begins. Please do not drop your students off early as there will be no adult supervision for them. Breakfast and lunch are served daily at a cost of $1.60 for breakfast and $3.00 for lunch. Please complete the free and reduced lunch applications online or pick up the paper applications from the main office as soon as possible. The county will not provide free lunches to students who have not completed an application. These prices are subject to change.

We hope to see you at Back to School Night on September 25th , 2018 from 7:00 pm — 9:00 pm

Our fall fundraiser will kick off on September 7th , 2018.  Please support our fundraiser, as funds raised are spent on the students.

I am excited to tell you that Kenmoor has received a grant for $150,000 dollars for the past two years. We have been able to create a maker's space class, an autism sensory room and this year adding 220 chrome books among other programs. Our outdoor classroom will have a new cover, and our gardens will be planted. We will use our rain barrels for watering, and continue with our recycling and stream ecology programs to promote environmental literacy skills, which will benefit all of our students. Two years ago Kenmoor was recognized as a Green school. We will continue our partnership with Camp Schmidt, North Bay and the Chesapeake Bay foundation to provide our students with training in environmental programs. If you have any particular skills that you can contribute to these projects please contact Ms. Beth Novick, we can always use your expertise.

We believe that every student can be successful at Kenmoor Middle School and we look forward to working together to ensure the success of our students.

We are great by choice and GRAND by design!

    See you soon.

    With great anticipation,

    Maha Fadli,

    Principal
