Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Director, the Assistant Director assists in the coordination and administration of the short and long term objectives of an organizational department in the Division of Information Technology. The incumbent of this position is responsible for supporting, evaluating and supervising assigned staff. The Assistant Director supports the Director in all aspects of the functions associated with ensuring the efficient operation of the organizational unit and acts for the Director in their absence.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the department; establishes procedures for monitoring the operation of a department and recommends changes and improvements;
- Facilitates effective communication both internally to the department as well as cross functionally with other departments in the IT division;
- Develops an operational data framework for the department and establishes procedures for ongoing data monitoring;
- Establishes, maintains and manages relationships with internal and external stakeholders on behalf of the Director; represents the department at cross functional and external meetings;
- Completes staff evaluation activities as assigned and oversees the office and staff in the absence of, or at the direction of, the Director;
- Develops and/or participates in training and professional development activities;
- Assists with the development of the office budget and develops priorities within budgetary limitations;
- Develops innovative solutions for identified issues and problems; translates information into strategic action plans; provides logistical and administrative support and leadership to ensure seamless and efficient services;
- Works to develop new and innovative ways to evaluate and continually improve processes to deliver high quality customer service; designs or refines strategies and plans around areas of opportunity;
- Develops and revises Administrative Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, and other processes and procedures to ensure district is in compliance with all local, state and federal requirements; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of school system information systems and functions, as well as best practices and trends in educational technology;
- Knowledge of IT governance models;
- Knowledge of adult learning and development models and practices;
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact timely and effectively with senior level administration and colleagues;.
- Project management skills to implement new technologies;
- Team leadership and human relations skills;
- Excellent problem-solving skills;
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing, including the ability to convey complex and technical subjects in a clear, concise and positive manner;

- Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in information security, computer science, business administration, educational leadership or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of previous related experience required.
Certification:
None required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Oversees and provides guidance and direction to assigned personnel.
