Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director, the Board Communications Technician supports the marketing, communications, and community outreach initiatives that advance the mission and priorities of the Board of Education Office. The incumbent performs a variety of duties essential to fostering and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholder groups and assisting in the preparation and dissemination of publications, informational materials, and communications. The Board Communications Technician also supports efforts to enhance community awareness, promote transparency, and strengthen public engagement with the Board of Education.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drafts, edits and distributes communications materials, including newsletters, announcements, website updates, social media posts and other outreach content;
- Coordinates communications initiatives, monitors effectiveness, and supports stakeholder outreach efforts to increase awareness of the Board’s work;
- Supports the creation and maintenance of communications templates, graphics and digital platforms to ensure consistency and effectiveness of Board messaging;
- Reviews and corrects documents, presentations or reports to ensure factual accuracy and adherence to organizational standards before distribution;
- Provides general administrative support to the Board Office, including scheduling, correspondence, document preparation, records management, and serving as backup to administrative secretaries for calendar management, meeting scheduling and other office tasks as needed;
- Assists with logistical support for Board meetings, work sessions and special events, including preparing materials and maintaining documentation;
- Supports the execution of other team and organizational priorities as needed, including public relations and community events;
- Identifies and resolves minor issues in communications materials, digital content or meeting logistics; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of communications practices, including digital, print and social media platforms;
- Familiarity with marketing, public relations and outreach strategies to engage diverse stakeholders;
- Understanding of administrative processes, office operations and document management;
- Knowledge of school system organization, policies and procedures is preferred;
- Written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear, professional and compelling materials;
- Graphic design and digital content skills (e.g., templates, social media graphics, website updates);
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and communications platforms (e.g., social media management tools);
- Strong planning and coordination skills to support meetings, events and outreach initiatives;
- Ability to think creatively and strategically about communications and messaging;
- Ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team; and
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information.
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in communications, public relations, marketing, business administration or a related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in communications, public relations, administrative support or a related field required; experience in a public sector or school system environment preferred.
Certification:
None required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
No direct supervisor responsibilities.
