Under the direction of the Carpentry Master Foreman, the Carpenter I will perform skilled carpentry work of a journeyman level in rough and finished buildings. An employee in this class performs skilled work involving responsibility for efficient and workmanlike performance. The work is usually performed under the supervision of a Carpenter Foremen. The Carpenter I position can be assisted by Trades Helpers and Apprentices.
High school diploma, GED, or completion of trade school program required; with some experience as a carpenter; supplemented by completion of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skill and abilities.

While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the strength and dexterity to perform all required tasks including the ability to climb a 40' vertical ladder, work from scaffolding and a bucket truck, the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 80 lbs., work in cramped interior spaces, and the ability to do extensive walking, bending, stooping, crawling and kneeling in the course of completing daily work assignments. The employee is required to maintain sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions, solvents, odors, and adverse weather conditions.
