Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Associate Superintendent, the Director – Digital and Visual Media will have the overall responsibility for shaping public perception of the district by creating and managing compelling digital and visual experiences across various platforms.  The incumbent of this position will oversee digital branding and ensure brand consistency, accessibility and engagement.  The Director is responsible for developing an operational framework and related initiatives for the department, developing a budget based on analysis of needs, and conducting the evaluation of programs and the personnel in the department.  Special assignments are received through conferences, written instructions and requests from the Associate Superintendent for Communications & Community Engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plays a critical strategic role in aligning digital and visual content with organizational goals and priorities;
  • Provides multimedia project oversight to support district initiatives, executive messaging, recruitment and storytelling;
  • Manages the digital and visual content strategy to foster brand consistency, reputation management, stakeholder engagement and community trust;
  • Serves as a member of the executive and crisis communications teams in support of the Superintendent and executive leadership;
  • Coordinates and aligns with other district leadership as an active participant on district strategy teams, advisories, committees and partners with external agencies as needed to fulfill communication needs;
  • Serves as the visual voice of the organization, balancing artistic vision with operational execution;
  • Develops and manages the department’s budget and maintains strict fiscal accountability;
  • Represents the school system at meetings and conferences at the local, state and national levels;
  • Collects and utilizes data to inform decisions for continuous improvement and coordinates proven, research-based methods and strategies for digital and visual communications;
  • Evaluates assigned personnel in alignment with articulated Board of Education personnel guidelines and procedures; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of digital communication platforms, branding, design principles, visual storytelling, project management workflows, and ADA compliance;
  • Ability to create compelling digital content, and influence and engage stakeholders;
  • Commitment to continuous learning and adaptability to new tools and platforms;
  • Outstanding verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, maintaining sensitive and confidential communications;
  • Ability to work independently in a variety of situations often requiring extensive contact with local public officials, local media representatives, community members and special interest groups;
  • Strong knowledge of and familiarity with media and different aspects of public information and communications;
  • Ability to think boldly and innovatively to develop and enact new ideas;
  • Proficiency with digital and social media platforms and related applications for oversight, direction and performance of duties;
  • Experience in planning, implementing, evaluating, budgeting and personnel management;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working conditions; and
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills and judgment; and ability to integrate diverse information from varied sources.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, broadcast, journalism or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of increasingly higher-level related work experience in the field of multimedia or digital communications in the public or private sector required; previous experience in school public relations management preferred.

Certification:

None required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Oversees and provides guidance and direction to the unit staff.
