Early Learning Center at Samuel Chase Elementary

About the Center

The Prince George’s County Public Schools Early Learning Center is an innovative early childhood initiative housed at Samuel Chase Elementary School in Temple Hills, Maryland. The Early Learning Center at Samuel Chase Elementary School offers a multi-faceted approach to accelerate the academic and social emotional skills of students enrolled in grades prekindergarten to grade three in order to ensure that our students are prepared and ready to read by the end of grade three.

Philosophy

The Early Learning Center at Samuel Chase Elementary believe with support in an integrated collaboration between school staff, families, and students will provide opportunities for optimum school success all students enrolled in grades prekindergarten to third grade.

How We Support PreK to Third Grade Learning

  • Weekly School Readiness on Wheels [SROW] Mobile Playgroups at neighborhood partnering childcare centers. For the 2021-2022 school year, SROW groups will be conducted virtually.  We are currently in the process of surveying our partnering centers to determine which centers have the technological capabilities to participate in virtual SROW groups.
  • Weekly School Readiness Playgroups at the Early Learning Center for neighborhood children birth – 4 years old.
  • Quarterly “Sneak a Peek” days for childcare students to visit Prekindergarten and Kindergarten classrooms
  • Parent learning opportunities based on the philosophy that parents are their child’s most important teacher at home and in partnership with the educators at Samuel Chase Elementary School.
  • Weekly reading and math acceleration groups for students enrolled at Samuel Chase Elementary School in grades prekindergarten to third grade
  • Weekly Social Skills Fundamentals lessons for students enrolled at Samuel Chase Elementary School in grades prekindergarten to third grade.
