Steps to Become a Bus Driver or Bus Attendant


    • Use the drop down menu to sort openings by job category (bus driver and attendants are under "support")
    • To ensure consideration, submit a completed online application and upload all documents ( example: High school diploma, typed reference letter, certifications etc.)
  • Within 2 weeks of applying, you will receive an email with the required documentation to be considered for an interview. Bring all of the required documentation to the Sasscer Administration Building. Incomplete paperwork will not be accepted.
  • You will attend your scheduled interview.
  • After your interview, you will be signed up for CDL/Bus Attendant training. YOU must obtain your CDL Learner's Permit with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements before entering the CDL training.
  • After successfully completing your training, you will report to the Sasscer Administration Building to register for your New Employee Orientation.

What you need to apply

Required Documents for Bus Driver Applicant

  • Complete Driver's Record with receipt (Maryland)
    • Virginia- 7 year Driver's Record
    • Washington D.C.- 10 year Driver's Record
  • Results of a Tuberculosis Test (within the past 12 months)
  • A copy of your resume
  • 2 letters of reference (Must be dated within the last 12 months, typed and signed)
    • Reference Letter #1: Must be from your previous supervisor on the company's letterhead paper
    • Reference Letter #2: Personal Reference letter can not be from a family member

Required Documents for Bus Attendant Applicant

  • Results of a Tuberculosis Test (within the past 12 months)
  • Physical (within the past 12 months)
  • A copy of your resume'
  • 2 letters of reference (Must be dated within the last 12 months, typed and signed)
    • Reference Letter #1: Must be from your previous supervisor on the company's letterhead paper
    • Reference Letter #2: Personal Reference letter can not be from a family member

Do I need to have a CDL before interviewing?

You do not need your CDL before interviewing. However, you will need to obtain the CDL Learners Permit with passenger and school bus endorsements before enrolling in the training class. 

What are the requirements?

Do I need a High School Diploma or GED?

HS Diploma is no longer required for Bus Drivers, however it is still a requirement for Bus Attendants

Do you provide paid training?

Yes, training is paid.  

I have a CDL, does my experience count towards my starting salary?

All new permanent drivers start at $18.78/hr. 

Am I able to use my high school diploma from another country?

High school diplomas and degrees from other countries need to be evaluated. See list of approved organizations for evaluations.
