    College Readiness Activities

    The Department of Student Services and the Office of College Readiness will be hosting a district-wide College Application Night Wednesday, October 23rd at Largo High School from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, 505 Largo Road, Upper Marlboro, MD 20774. The goal of the event is to assist Seniors with understanding the process of going to college.  

    The event will be an opportunity for our families to participate in workshops where they will learn critical steps to FAFSA: 
    • Financing College 
    • Dual Enrollment 
    • Scholarships
    • How to Apply to Highly Selective Schools 
    We are expanding the night to include a college fair where students can speak with over 35 colleges and university admissions counselors and possibly gain on-site admittance and waived application fees. I want to invite students, parents, and the community to participate in this district-wide event.  Please RSVP by filling out the registration form below to indicate your attendance.  
    Below are the following colleges providing onsite admissions:
    • University of Maryland Eastern Shore
    • Trinity Washington University
    • Morgan State University
    • Radford University
    • Lincoln University
    • Bowie State University

    All students should bring the following documents:
    • Official high school transcripts
    • Official SAT or ACT Scores
    • Letters of Recommendation

    September 3rd through October 1st

    Preparation for FAFSA  Application

    Time to make provision for 2019-2020 FAFSA Application.  Students will need FSA ID and 2018 Taxes.

    September 3rd through November 15th

    3D Scholars Application Window Opens

    3D Scholars Program is a partnership with PGCC, UMUC where students will gain 30 dual credits upon graduating from High School.

    Dual Enrollment Information Sessions

    Providing Dual Enrollment information to parents and students district-wide.

    September 16th through September 28th

    Accuplacer Testing Window

    Qualifying students will take the Accuplacer test in their perspective high schools to qualify for dual enrollment.

    3D Scholars Program is a partnership with PGCC and UMUC where students will afford the opportunity to accumulate 30 dual credits upon graduating from High School.

    FAFSA & Scholarships for Students and Families

    12th grade students and parents will learn how to complete the FAFSA and gain access to the maximum amount of financial aid available to them.


    November 20th

    Dual Enrollment Application Packet Intent to Enroll Forms Due

    Qualified students will complete and submit Dual Enrollment Applications or Intent to Enroll forms to their Professional School Counselors for Spring Admission.

    December 11th through December 18th

    Dual Enrollment In-School Registration

    Approved 11th and 12th grade students receive assistance registration for classes by PGCPS and PGCC staff for Spring 2020.

    Dual Enrollment Information’s Session

    Providing dual enrollment information to parent and students district wide.

    January 2020

    Dual Enrollment Eligibility Letters

    Qualified rising 11th and 12th grade students with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher after the 2nd quarter are invited to take the ACCUPLACER Next Generation Assessment to qualify for entry into the Dual Enrollment Program Summer/Fall 2020.

    February 13th, 2020

    College Readiness Workshop for 8th & 11th grade students & parents 

    Students and parents will learn 
    1) what makes students college readiness including advanced placement, dual enrollment, standardized testing options and 

    2) the steps in the college application process including understanding financial awareness.

    March 2, 2020

    College Readiness for Middle School Connecting College to Careers

    The College Readiness Middle School Event is to provide awareness and educate middle school students and parents on College Access and connecting college to career pathways.

    3D Scholars Program Sending out Acceptance Letters

    Confirming the 3D Scholars acceptance into the program and begin identifying students for the registration process.

    3D Scholars Orientation for Students and Parents

    The 3D Scholars Program Orientation will be providing an overview of the program and give students/parents an opportunity to speaks with professionals from all the institutions (PGCC, UMUC & PGCPS).

    Dual Enrollment Application Packet/Intent to Enroll Forms Due

    All Dual Enrollment Applications should be submitted to the Professional School Counselors by this date for Summer/Fall 2020.
