What should I do if my child is struggling with virtual instruction and is falling behind?
Reassess the designated workspace - Do you need to relocate? Assess potential distractions. Remove them as needed.
Review the current schedule.
Schedule breaks, activities, and time away from the screen.
Find or create support networks.
Talk to your child’s teacher.
Reach out to the administrators of your child’s school.
Request an IEP Meeting.
Contact the Distance Learning Hotline, Parent Support Center or the Family Support Center.
What do I do if our County issued device breaks?
Please follow the County’s procedures for broken, lost, and/or stolen devices. You received this when you picked up/received your child’s device.
What should I do if my child’s email is locked or I’ve forgotten the password?
Students are encouraged to reset passwords using Identify Management (Directions)
In an effort to provide PGCPS students in grades K-12 with login and password support, all questions should be directed to the school. It is our intent to continue to foster the relationship between the school and the family, ensuring that the information is provided to the parent/legal guardian on record with the school.
This process supersedes any information previously provided. Please follow the guidelines listed below:
Send an email message to your child’s homeroom teacher. Be sure to include the required info. (student name, student identification number, school, grade, birthdate) and include the type of device that the student will be using (Chromebook, PC, or MAC). Your child’s homeroom teacher will respond to your email with the login and password information.
What if my child’s physical classroom is usually staffed with a paraprofessional or other support staff, such as a dedicated assistant? How will these staff members be utilized in the virtual learning setting?
Additional Adult Support (AAS) staff is part of the reopening plan, and they will support students in the virtual environment. Please refer to page 56-57 of the PGCPS Reopening Plan available here: https://www.pgcps.org/reopen/
Where can I go if I need help with Google Classroom, Google Meet, or Zoom?
Reach out to your child’s teacher if you need support with accessing any of the platforms that your child may use this school year.
Youtube also hosts great videos on how to use many of the platforms that our students will encounter. These are self-paced videos and you can review them as many times as needed. You can also watch them with your child if appropriate.
Contact the Parent Support Center, Distance Learning Hotline or Family Support Center for general questions regarding these platforms. Staff may be able to assist you or direct you to additional resources for help.
What if I am struggling with supporting my child through distance learning?
Reach out to your child’s teacher, guidance counselor, or PPW for resources and support
Review your child’s IEP
Look at the modifications and accommodations.
Review the supplementary aids and supports
Familiarize yourself with the goals and objectives
Join a support group- Stay connected to others.
Attend virtual workshops and training
Watch Youtube videos on software or Google applications
If technology related, visit one of the newly established Parent Support Centers for assistance.
Overwhelmed, frustrated, ask for help! Utilize your resources.
Check out resources at the public library that assist with learning/homework.
Accept that there will be days when everything will not be done-prioritize!
