Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports

What is PBIS?

The P.B.I.S. a school-wide model teaches kids about behavior expectations and strategies. The focus of P.B.I.S. is prevention, not punishment. Often children struggle with behavior in school. When schools react only with punishment, students don’t learn the skills they need to improve.

P.B.I.S. pushes for schools to teach students positive behavior strategies, just as they would teach about any other subject — like reading or math. Schools using P.B.I.S., are teaching all students about positive behavior and are providing resources and interventions that solicit positive behaviors.

Parents, guardians, caregivers can learn positive behavior strategies to provide continuity of behavior support at home. Staff, Teachers, and Administration are trained to model, practice, introduce, and teach positive behavior techniques, as well as encouraging responses, such as language, rewards, and using a strength-based approach.
