Welcome Back to School

Dear Parents/Guardians:

It feels like it was just yesterday that I was bidding you farewell to wish you a summer filled with fun and relaxation.  Now, I come at this time to welcome you back for the start of the 2023 - 2024 school year.  Like every year, we start it with excitement and anticipation of awesome things to come.  We start it with a firm belief and expectation that each day, each and every day will be filled with meaningful teaching & learning.

This year, we have a few new team members to help us reach that goal.  I am excited to welcome Mr. Victor Hawkins as our new Assistant Principal.  Mr. Hawkins is an experienced educator having served in a variety of roles within our school system and others.  He brings with him an energy and enthusiasm centered around uplifting the students of Mattaponi ES and a firm belief that all students can learn and find success.  

Also joining our team is Mrs. Lisa Sunday who will be our full time English Language Development Teacher, formerly ESOL.  Previously, this was a role that we shared with Rosaryville Elementary, so to have this dedicated position to support our growing population of Multilingual Learners is one that we embrace with great anticipation.  Speaking of sharing, I am ecstatic to share that we will no longer have to share Mr. Keith as he will now be our dedicated Interrelated Art Teacher.

We extend best wishes to Ms. Kathryn Hall, Instrumental Music, who has moved on to serve the students of Prince George’s County in another capacity.  We happily and enthusiastically welcome Mr. Albert Wardlaw who will now direct our Instrumental Music program.  It is with a full heart that we extend best wishes to Ms. Melissa Sabo, who has also moved on to serve in another capacity.  A replacement for Ms. Sabo has not yet been secured, however, under the leadership of Mrs. Amanda Meyer, we expect for there to be continuity in the delivery of instruction for our talented and gifted learners.

In closing, we look forward to meeting our new students on Friday, August 25th at the Kindergarten and New Student Orientation at 8:00am and all of our students on the first day of school on Monday, August 28th at 7:30am.  Back-to-School Night has been tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 6:30pm.
