Project Scope

Demolition of the existing 106,318 SF facility built in 1964 with a State Rated Capacity (SRC) of 850 students and replacement with a new 170,900 SF facility with a SRC of 1,200 students at the same site.

Project Updates

February 2024

Past Month's Accomplishments

  • Phase 2 site work continued, including installation of stormwater structures, bio-retention structures/piping, sidewalks, curbs,
    gutters, site lights, stone base, and paving at the roadway and bus entrance.
  • Washington Gas began the onsite installation of the gas line and continues to wait for the gas permit from the
    Prince George's County Department of Permits, Inspections and Enforcement (DPIE).
  • Installation of metal siding, curtainwalls, glazing, exterior fixtures, exterior doors, and sunshades was completed.
  • Installation of mechanical and electrical controls and connections to the rooftop equipment was completed.
  • Installation of flooring, ceiling grid, light fixtures, devices, and trim in all gender-neutral restrooms was completed.
  • Wiring and installation of light fixtures and low voltage devices and trim out in the electrical rooms was completed.
  • All overhead work, overhead quality control inspections and installation of overhead equipment and the divider in the gym was completed.
  • PEPCO installed the electrical service connection to the building and energized permanent power.
  • Installed temporary heat as required in the building.
  • Continued making electrical connections to the mechanical equipment, tested, and certified the back flow preventer, and installed exhaust fans and unit heaters in the Sprinkler Room.
  • Continued to prepare floors and install flooring and base on all three floors of Areas C, B, and A .

February Lookahead

  • Phase 2 site work, including installing stormwater structures, bio-retention structures, and piping, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, site lights, stone base, and paving at the roadway and bus entrance, will continue.
  • Washington Gas to tie in the gas line at Norman Avenue.
  • Complete the installation of exterior fixtures.
  • Continue installation of heat trace at the cooling tower piping.
  • Complete the finishes, toilet partitions, final paint, ceiling tile, and accessories in all Gender-Neutral Restrooms
  • Startup and test the emergency generator.
  • Complete the insulation, electrical, and mechanical work in the Main Mechanical Room.
  • Complete the installation of lights, grilles, and diffusers on the first floor of Areas C, B, and A.
  • Continue flooring preparation and installation on the first floor of Areas B, C, and A, and the third floor of Area B.
  • Complete installation of millwork and casework on the first floor of Area A, B1, and C1, and the second floor of Area B2.
  • Continue marker board, tackboard and architectural specialty installation on the second and third floor of Area C, and the second floor of Area B.
  • Begin marker board, tackboard and architectural specialty installation on the first floor of Area C.

November 2023

Past Month's Accomplishments

  • Structural steel and roofing installation were completed.
  • The switchgear was installed and is waiting on permanent power by Pepco.
  • In-wall electrical and plumbing rough-ins and sprinkler rough-ins were completed.
  • Exterior Veneer and interior stone veneer were completed.
  • Installation of rooftop equipment screens was completed.

November Lookahead

  • Commissioning activities and equipment start-ups throughout the building will commence.
  • MEP above ceiling rough-ins and ceiling grid installation are ongoing.
  • Floor preparation, VCT installation, interior paint, and interior finishes will continue.
  • Elevator adjusting and balancing will be completed.
  • Site work and curtain wall assemblies are ongoing.
