Welcome to Bladensburg Elementary School, Home of the Mighty Bulldogs!! Bladensburg Elementary School sits on a hilltop overlooking the Bladensburg community. I have been the PROUD Principal of this learning institute for the past 13 years. "Being a Servant Leader of a learning community is one of the most prestigious roles that one could play in the field of education. It is never to be taken lightly that you hold the baton to making a difference in the life of a child; ultimately the lives of many in our society. Achievement is the primary goal through the art of teaching and learning. However, success is when you realize that the child that walked through the doors of learning has left a better individual than how he/she came in."

Bladensburg Elementary School's Mission

We believe that all children can learn and achieve without regard to ethnic, cultural or gender differences. We believe that children meet the expectations of those who influence them - parents, teachers, peers and community members. We believe that children learn and achieve best in a happy, supportive, motivating and safe environment.
Together, We Make a Difference!!!!!

Town History

The city of Bladensburg is named after Thomas Bladen, the first native of Maryland to hold the position of Governor of Maryland in 1742. From then until 1830, Bladensburg was one of the most promising port cities in colonial Maryland. At one time, Bladensburg was the largest market for fish caught in the Potomac River. By 1830, erosion of soil along the Potomac River caused the river to become shallower and ocean going ships could no longer reach Bladensburg.

Bladensburg is also the site of many historial places and events including the Indian Queen Tavern, the place where many early leaders stopped during their travels. In addition, Bladensburg is the site of the Battle of Bladensburg fought in 1814. Samuel F.B. Morse strung the first telephone message. In 1857, C.G. Page conducted a trail run of the electric locomotive. Sculptor Clark mills cast in bronze the twenty foot high statue of Armed Freedom which was placed on the dome of the Capitol in December of 1863.

School History

Since colonial days, Bladensburg has changed from a seaport to a suburban community with approximately 8,000 residents who possess a wide range of interests and talesnts and come from all walks of life. Bladensburg Elementary School, Home of the Mighty Bulldogs is located in the heart of the Town of Bladensburg, up on the hill. In 1990, Bladensburg Elementary moved from 5150 Annapolis Road to 4915 Annapolis Road, the former site of Bladensburg Junior High School.

Since that time the staff and students in conjuction with the parents and community members have worked extremely hard to make Bladensburg Elementary a great place to learn.
As our school motto reads: Together, We Make A Difference!!!!
