PHS Community Welcome Letter

Dear Potomac High School Community,

My name is Dr. DeMarco Clark and it is an honor to introduce myself as the new principal of Potomac High School. I am a proud product of Prince George’s County being raised in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Therefore, it is my privilege to come back to my community to serve as an instructional leader of Potomac High School. I can assure you that I am committed to share in this school community’s commitment to caring for your children each and every day while providing quality instruction.

I am a seasoned administrator within Prince George’s County Public Schools and have a plethora of experiences. This school year will mark my 26th year in Prince George’s County Public Schools. I began my career as a Science and Mathematics teacher at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School. Then, I became a case manager for the Maryland’s Tomorrow Success Program. In this role, I monitored “at risk” youth academics, attendance and behavior. Afterwards, I served as an assistant principal at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School and Dr. Henry A Wise High School. Last, I have been the principal of Thurgood Marshall Middle School. In all of my roles, my philosophy has been to put children first as I provide a safe and orderly environment conducive to learning.

As I have begun this next chapter of principalship, I plan to work collaboratively with all staff members on a daily basis, while also remaining connected to young students learning and growing in the classroom. I firmly believe that every child can excel and that the partnership between home and school builds confidence in students to use skills learned to shape their future.

Over the last few weeks, my dialogue with the district staff have brought me privileged insights into the core beliefs and values that underlie the Potomac High School Wolverine Community. It is my goal to continue the tradition of excellence here at Potomac High School. I am committed to exploring new ways to meet the needs of all students and to more effectively communicate with parents and community members. I will be meeting with parents, students, and staff throughout the year to identify specific goals in the areas of student achievement, school climate, and parent communication.

My first Meet and Greet opportunity will take place on August 10th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Potomac High School. We will serve light refreshments and beverages. Please plan to attend my first event in meeting the school community. This invitation is also to our amazing students. I am extremely excited to meet you. I hope that you are excited for this upcoming school year and are eager to have the best year ever. We will make it fun learning together.

In closing, please know that my greatest accomplishments are becoming a father of three amazing children. DeMarco D. Clark (22), Mikayla Clark (19) and Anthony Clark (17) are the “joys” of my life. All three of them have attended Prince George’s County Public Schools and are pursuing their career goals. I look forward to introducing my family to you in the near future.

Finally it is important that you know that my door is always open to you. Please schedule all meetings through my secretary Ms. Bullock (laura.bullock@pgcps.org). I do ask that you understand that safety and instruction comes first. My administrative team and staff will be committed to ensuring that our students feel safe and receive rigorous instruction each and every day. I look forward to celebrating our collective successes throughout the 2023-2024 school year.

Educationally,
Dr. DeMarco Clark
Proud Principal of Potomac High School
