At Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), preparing students for life after high school is at the center of our mission. Maryland’s College and Career Readiness (CCR) standard provides a clear marker: it defines what it means to be ready for the next step, whether that’s college, career training, military service, or entering the workforce.
CCR isn’t a single test or score. Students can demonstrate readiness in several ways, including:
Meeting the CCR standard opens doors and gives students access to advanced opportunities such as dual enrollment courses, career and technical programs, and college-level classes — often at no cost to families. Just as importantly, it signals that students are on track to succeed beyond high school.
Not every student reaches CCR at the same pace. Some are ready right away, while others need more time and targeted support. PGCPS provides multiple pathways to help students reach this milestone:
These supports go beyond “catching up.” They build the skills and confidence students need for college-level work or career pathways, ensuring every student has a clear path forward.
This school year, we’ll spotlight PGCPS students who are achieving CCR in different ways and highlight how these milestones are shaping their futures.
Student Spotlight: Uchenna Amadife, High Point High School

After meeting the College and Career Readiness (CCR) standard, Uchenna Amadife is focused on building an impressive transcript and exploring new opportunities beyond the classroom. His goal: to attend a top four-year college, study finance, and eventually run his own business.
Uchenna’s advice for his peers: “Don’t procrastinate, but don’t overwork yourself either. Take classes you can handle, and do your research on AP or Dual Enrollment courses so you know they’ll truly benefit you in the end.”
Together, we are preparing students for college, careers, and life.
