The Prince George’s County Board of Education and the Department of Capital Programs (DCP) will hold a Public Hearing on the FY 2027–2032 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) on Wednesday, September 17 at 6:30 p.m.

What Is the CIP?

Think of the CIP as the school system’s six-year construction and repair plan. It’s where we map out major projects — from fixing roofs and windows to building new schools — and set priorities for how limited funding is spent. While funding is approved one year at a time, the CIP serves as a roadmap, giving families and communities a clear picture of what’s coming.

The CIP works hand-in-hand with the Educational Facilities Master Plan (EFMP), which looks 20 years ahead at enrollment trends, school conditions, and long-term building needs. This fall, PGCPS will begin updating the EFMP to shape the next generation of school facilities.

Why It Matters

Prince George’s County has some of the oldest school buildings in Maryland. Many need significant upgrades to provide the safe, modern learning spaces our students deserve.

We’re in the most active period of school construction since the 1970s, thanks to a mix of traditional CIP projects and innovative partnerships that are cutting building timelines nearly in half. But the need still far outweighs available funding. That’s why the Board has made school construction its top legislative priority this year — and why your input is essential.
