In alignment with the goals and priorities of Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS), the School Performance Plan (SPP) allows for a transparent and collaborative school improvement process with a focus on student achievement.
The School Performance Plan was developed this school year as the continuation of the detailed work and planning completed in the previous school year. The SPP focuses schools on engaging in disciplined inquiry cycles through the use of Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA). Through the successful utilization of PDSA, schools are able to impact student achievement and teacher practice by taking a scientific approach to school improvement.

Math- During the Sy 25-26 school year, all Math teachers in grades 2- 5 will improve their student's reasoning skills by implementing a Close Reading Strategy utilizing a Math Super Sleuth Graphic Organizer when dissecting a mathematical word problem. As a result, the percentage of students scoring proficient/distinguished will increase by 10 percentage points as measured by two assessments: Quarterly Math Benchmarks-Intermittent Assessment And 2026 Math MCAP- Summative Assessment |
RELA/ELA-During the SY 25-26 school year, all ELA students in grades 2–5 will improve their writing proficiency by teachers implementing explicit writing instruction and strategies (including modeled writing, guided practice, and independent application) within each 9-week period. As a result, the percentage of students scoring proficient/distinguished will increase by 10 percentage points as measured by two assessments: Quarterly Writing Tasks (Fall–Spring comparison) End-of-Year ELA MCAP Summative Assessment |

Problem of Practice |
||
|
Teachers are not consistently providing opportunities for students to reason abstractly and critique the reasoning of others (MP 2 & 3). Therefore, students struggle with expressing their thinking in a clear manner through writing. |
Teachers are not consistently providing opportunities for students to unlock the prompt in order to show understanding and respond through a variety of writing tasks across content areas. |

Teachers and students will utilize the Math Super Sleuth Graphic Organizer when dissecting a word problem. This tool goes |
Teachers and students will utilize the DO–WHAT–HOW "Unlocking the Prompt" Strategy |
|
|
beyond a 3 Reads protocol. It requires students to engage in the following: State what the word problem is about? Identify what the word problem is asking you to do? Pinpoint vocabulary, units, quantities, etc Modeling their thinking using a specific strategy Write an equation to represent the solution to the problem Explain in writing and justify their work; receiving feedback/critique from 2 peers |
before beginning any major writing task. This tool supports consistent explicit writing instruction by requiring students to engage in the following: DO: Identify what the prompt is asking them to do (purpose, mode of writing, required actions). WHAT: Determine what the topic is about and what information/evidence is needed from texts or sources. HOW: Identify the structure or format the writing must follow (organization, details, craft moves). Students will then: Use a common planning organizer aligned to DO–WHAT–HOW. Participate in modeled writing as the teacher demonstrates the routine. Engage in guided practice to apply the strategy with support. Independently apply the strategy to plan and draft writing. |

|
**By the end of cycle 1, 75% of all Math teachers will have evidence of consistent implementation of the Math Super Sleuth Graphic Organizer.** |
**By the end of cycle one, 75% of teachers in grades 2-5 will have evidence of the implementation of the Writing Strategy.** |
|
|
**By the end of cycle 1, using the math assessments, we will know if students have met or are meeting their targeted goals for improving their problem-solving/reasoning skills, if at least 75% of our students are within the 85%-100%band. The bands are as follows:\* 60%-69% - approaching goal - the student is just below grade level\* 70%-84% - met goal - the student is on grade level\* 85%-100% - exceeded goal - student is above grade level. With the Math Graphic Organizer:\* the data will be collected to reflect if students are able to complete each step effectively and correctly.** |
**With the routine writing and cycle assessments, we will know if students have met their targeted goals when:**
**\* 65% of students score a two or above on the MCAP writing rubric by the end of cycle one** |

**Evidence-based Strategy: Lexia (according to the citation below)**
Based on our data, our students are successful with literal comprehension. However, interpretive or critical comprehension, (especial SWD) struggle with making inferences, which also support more critical thinking. This area of weakness is evident in ELA and in Math. To improve our student's ability to reason, ELA and Math Teachers will implement close reading and writing strategies within their instruction. |
Target growth for PDSA Cycle 1 will be 75% of our 41 SWD will show growth on Lexia.
Math Target growth for PDSA Cycle 1 will be 70% of our 41 SWD will show growth on the Benchmark Assessment. |
