Beltsville Academy School Performance Plan

Introduction
In alignment with the goals and priorities of Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS), the School Performance Plan (SPP) allows for a transparent and collaborative school improvement process with a focus on student achievement.

The School Performance Plan was developed this school year as the continuation of the detailed work and planning completed in the previous school year. The SPP focuses schools on engaging in disciplined inquiry cycles through the use of Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA). Through the successful utilization of PDSA, schools are able to impact student achievement and teacher practice by taking a scientific approach to school improvement.

SMART Goals
A targeted
aspiration that serves as the focal point for collective improvement efforts
Specific; Measurable; Achievable; Realistic; Timebound
Math- By June 2026, the overall percentage of students who score proficient or above (Levels 3 & 4) will increase by 5 percentage points on the Math MCAP from 12.16 % to 17.16 %. RELA/ELA-By June 2026, there will be a 10% increase in proficiency based on MCAP and Dibels, depending on the grade level of the student. Attendance-Throughout the 2025-2026 school year, students will continue to demonstrate an increase in their attendance rate by showing a 3% decrease in the number of students who are chronically absent from EOY June 2025 (20.9%) to EOY June 2026.
Problem of Practice
One problem the school has chosen to address that will assist them in moving toward the overarching Smart Goal
There are insufficient supports for students who have not mastered academic writing for Tier 2/3 math reasoning problems, therefore students are facing challenges with writing to explain and justify their thinking when solving MCAP Type II problems. Teachers are delivering instruction without providing the ELD Linguistic Supports and ELD and SPED students are scoring lower on assessments. Positive reinforcement of good attendance and parent communication about attendance have been inconsistent, therefore 20.9% of the students at Beltsville Academy were chronically absent during SY 25.
Change Idea
A specific, actionable idea or technique that school teams will use to address the SMART Goal
Increase student proficiency in mathematics by implementing the MCAP Success Plan in grades 3 through 8, focusing on writing in mathematics while using the ELD Linguistic Supports - visuals, direct vocabulary instruction, sentence frames/word walls, and collaborative conversations. Increase student proficiency in reading by implementing the WIDA Success Plan in grades K - 2, focusing on vocabulary development, sentence structure, and writing, while using the ELD Linguistic Supports - visuals, direct vocabulary instruction, sentence frames/word walls, and collaborative conversations. Reward good student attendance at varying school levels to encourage daily school attendance.
Target
The AIM set to determine if the implementation of the change idea was successful
70% of math classrooms will show evidence of the use of ELD Linguistic Supports during informal observations and learning walks when teaching the MCAP Success Plan lessons. By December 2025, 75% of K - 2 teachers will have shown evidence of correct implementation of the WIDA Success Plan. 80% of classrooms in each grade level span (PreK - 2nd, 3rd - 5th, 6th - 8th) will have evidence posted in the classrooms regarding their classroom level incentive plan with rewards.
