Laying Foundations, Shaping Futures: Fall Blueprint Schools Update

Prince George’s County Public Schools continues to make remarkable strides in delivering innovative, high-quality learning environments through Phase II of the Blueprint Schools Program. With groundbreaking ceremonies completed across all six core school sites and progress well underway, the fall season brings exciting developments to share with our families, staff, and community partners.

Below is a school-by-school snapshot of construction updates through September 2025:

Margaret Brent Elementary School

  • Groundbreaking: September 10, 2024
  • Construction Status: Major structural work is complete. The geothermal well and geo-pier installations are finished, and steel framing, slab pours, and roof barrier installations have been completed. Interior and exterior wall framing is in progress, with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) rough-ins well underway. Site utilities and grading are also active.

Templeton Elementary School

  • Groundbreaking: September 17, 2024
  • Construction Status: The building foundation and structural steel erection are progressing steadily. Roof installation has commenced, and geothermal well drilling is ongoing. MEP systems are being roughed-in, and off-site stormwater upgrades are underway. Site grading and sheathing installation are in full swing.

Robert Frost K–8 School

  • Groundbreaking: September 12, 2024
  • Construction Status: The former structure and site asphalt have been removed. The building foundation and slab on grade are nearly complete, with steel framing, CMU stair shaft construction, and under-slab systems in progress. Site lighting, utility work, and waterline installation on 85th Avenue are active.

Brandywine K–8 School

  • Groundbreaking: August 8, 2025
  • Construction Status: Early sitework has made strong progress. Sediment controls, grading, and geo-pier installation are well underway. Concrete footings have begun, and utility installation is progressing across the site.

Fairwood Elementary School

  • Groundbreaking: October 4, 2025
  • Construction Status: Erosion and sediment controls, stormwater basin installation, and fencing have been completed. Temporary power setup and site access roads are being established, while site grading continues. Demolition of the former Woodmore Elementary School is finished, and off-site work is ongoing.

Hyattsville Elementary School 

  • Groundbreaking: August 5, 2025
  • Construction Status: Initial abatement and utility disconnects are complete. Demolition of the existing structure is currently in progress as the site transitions to new construction phases.

Duckworth Elementary and Springhill Lake Elementary

Significant planning and design milestones have also been achieved for the next group of schools, Springhill Lake Elementary School and James E. Duckworth Elementary School:

  • 35% Design Progress Drawings were submitted in July 2025, with feedback received in August.

  • 65% Design Progress Drawings for both schools were submitted at the end of September 2025.

  • Site Development Concept Plans have been submitted for permitting.

Community engagement remains a top priority. A Town Hall for Springhill Lake Elementary was held on October 30, 2025, and a Town Hall for James E. Duckworth Elementary followed on November 5, 2025, providing families and community members with key updates and opportunities for feedback.
