Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) is transforming education with the Blueprint Schools Program. This program creates state-of-the-art facilities to meet the needs of students, educators, and communities. Phase II is well underway and on track to meet all key design and construction targets.
The design team at Progressive Education Partners (PEP) began 2024 with a clear focus on advancing the design and permitting process for the first three schools: Margaret Brent Elementary, Templeton Elementary, and Robert Frost K-8. All three successfully completed the Mandatory Referral process with the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (MNCPPC) by the end of the year. Additionally, fine grading permits were secured for all three schools as of early 2025, working in close collaboration with the Prince George’s County Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement (DPIE).
Here are the latest updates on all eight schools in Phase II of the program:
Brandywine Area K-8 School
The design for Brandywine K-8 School is ongoing, with construction set to begin in the summer of 2025. Initial work will include demolition, grading, and laying the foundation for this modern new school.
Fairwood Elementary School
Fairwood Elementary is on track. The final designs are expected in mid-2025. Construction activity, including site preparation and structural work, is planned to begin by mid-year.
Hyattsville Elementary School
Hyattsville Elementary continues to move forward. The final design plans are set for mid-2025, and demolition and construction will start in the summer.
James E. Duckworth Elementary School
As part of the Group C schools, Duckworth Elementary is just beginning its design and planning stages. Later this year, we will share additional updates on its progress.
Margaret Brent Elementary School
Margaret Brent Elementary is making significant progress in construction. Site preparation, geothermal drilling, and grading are already underway. The foundations will be completed by mid-2025, followed by structural and interior work.
Robert Frost Area K-8 School
Robert Frost K-8 School has reached significant milestones. Grading and foundation work are scheduled to be finished by mid-2025. Soon after, structural framing will begin, marking the next phase of construction.
Springhill Lake Elementary School
Springhill Lake Elementary is entering its planning phase, and design efforts will ramp up in 2025. Construction updates will be provided as the project progresses.
Templeton Elementary School
Templeton Elementary is well underway, with interior demolition already complete. Foundation work and building construction will continue throughout 2025, with significant progress expected by year’s end.
