The Colin L. Powell Academy in Fort Washington, Maryland, is a newly constructed 235,000-square-foot K–8 school designed to serve up to 2,000 students. Completed as part of Prince George’s County Public Schools’ Blueprint Schools Program, the project utilized a public-private partnership (P3) model to accelerate delivery and reduce long-term maintenance costs. The school features a modern, energy-efficient design with two distinct wings: a three-story section for elementary grades (Pre-K–5) and a four-story section for middle school students (6–8), ensuring age-appropriate separation. Key facilities include STEAM labs with 3D printers and robotics, a video production studio, a media center, art and music rooms, gymnasiums, and outdoor learning spaces. The building incorporates sustainable features such as solar readiness, EV charging infrastructure, UV air purification, and daylighting systems to enhance indoor environments. Technology-rich classrooms are equipped with interactive smart boards, sound systems, and real-time energy monitoring dashboards. The campus also includes new athletic fields, playgrounds, and reconfigured traffic circulation to improve safety and access for students and the community.
