The newly constructed Drew-Freeman Middle School in Suitland, Maryland, is a 144,000-square-foot, two-story facility designed to serve 1,200 students in grades 6 through 8. Built under Prince George’s County Public Schools’ Blueprint Schools Phase 1 public-private partnership, the $67 million project emphasizes modern design, safety, and sustainability. The school features STEAM labs equipped with 3D printers and robotics, a video production studio with broadcasting capabilities, and classrooms outfitted with 75-inch interactive smart boards and enhanced audio systems. Additional facilities include a media center, a gymnatorium with a performance stage, art rooms with daylight sensors and kiln rooms, and outdoor classrooms with Wi-Fi connectivity. The building incorporates energy-efficient systems, such as tubular skylights, CO₂ monitoring, UV air purification, and is solar- and EV-charging ready, aiming for LEED Silver equivalency. Site improvements encompass new bus and car entryways, parking, landscaping with native plants, and multipurpose athletic fields, all designed to support both student learning and community engagement.
