Prince George’s County Public Schools is planning the replacement of the existing James E. Duckworth Elementary School with a new, state-of-the-art 2-story educational facility. The proposed building will span approximately 95,067 square feet and be designed to support modern learning environments that prioritize student wellness, accessibility, and safety.
The new building will feature updated classrooms, early childhood learning spaces at grade level, and a centrally located “Heart of the School” gathering area. The design will reflect community input and include seasonal landscaping, sustainable features, and improved site circulation. Project completion is targeted for mid-2028.
School design is shaped by community input and architectural expertise.

The architects for Phase II created two design options for the eight schools in this phase. Like in Phase I, using prototypes helps speed up construction and lower costs, so students and staff can enjoy updated facilities sooner. Each school will still have space to reflect its unique identity. The presentation below from Perkins Eastman explains the design choices. Take a look at the newest Blueprint School designs!
