Templeton Elementary School

Project Overview

Templeton Elementary at Kenmoor is a three-story, 107,905-square-foot school designed to serve 850 Pre-K through 5th grade students in a vibrant, sustainable environment. Built into a sloping site, the school features daylight-filled classrooms, collaborative academic neighborhoods, and a welcoming entry plaza with colorful, student-friendly design elements. At its core lies a dynamic double-height central commons—“the heart of the school”—which serves as a hub for dining, performances, and community events.

This next-generation facility includes 36 core classrooms, 6 autism-specific classrooms, a library, gym, art and music spaces, and small group breakout areas. The design prioritizes safety with a secure entry vestibule and main office overlooking arrival zones. Sustainability is at the forefront, with a geothermal HVAC system, enhanced ventilation, daylight autonomy, rain gardens, and Net Zero Energy-ready infrastructure supported by a Maryland Energy Administration grant.

Templeton Elementary represents Prince George’s County Public Schools’ continued commitment to high-performance, inclusive, and future-ready educational spaces through the Blueprint Schools Program.

Blueprint Phase II Design

The architects for Phase II created two design options for the eight schools in this phase. Like in Phase I, using prototypes helps speed up construction and lower costs, so students and staff can enjoy updated facilities sooner. Each school will still have space to reflect its unique identity. The presentation below from Perkins Eastman explains the design choices. Take a look at the newest Blueprint School designs!
