Description:
Reading/Writing 8 Enrichment is an additional quarter-length course for sixth graders that may be offered during the Creative Arts block or during the school-wide Enrichment period. The curriculum for this course is aligned with the Maryland College and Career- Readiness Standards in order to improve reading and writing skills and strategies. The Standards of Reading-Literature and Reading-Informational Text and writing are the key focus areas for instruction and learning with a variety of texts at differing levels of complexity. Analysis of texts are integral pieces of this course, as are review/practice of reading strategies and vocabulary instruction and writing argumentation, informative/explanatory, and narrative essays. An approved reading intervention program such as Lexia or READ 180 may also be used in this course.
