Description:
This required course is a survey of major French novels and literary works from 20th and 21st century for students who have a high intermediate proficiency in French (this course is conducted in French). Students will also use critical reading and thinking skills to analyze fiction (including novels) and non-fiction literary genres from world literature. Students explore a variety of authors, works and subgenres. Through reading a variety of works themes, literary motifs and stylistic devices are analyzed. Students examine how various works reflect sociopolitical and historical contexts in the francophone world. Finally, students reflect on which beliefs and values are presented in the works they read. Students will also engage in reading, writing, speaking and listening activities that are reflective of the College and Career Readiness Standards as well as the Maryland World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages. Finally, students reflect on which beliefs and values are presented in the works they read.
