Basic Accounting is a 36-week course with 15 lessons. Each lesson takes 6-7 hours to complete and includes an assessment. During the semester, students study the basic concepts of accounting by relating accounting to real-life situations. Students are introduced to a real-life business in every chapter where they learn about each company and the way that accounting applies to the business. Students also learn about different careers in accounting as they complete activities in each lesson. Lessons are fully integrated with technology and computer use and students utilize the Glencoe Companion Website with software tutorial directions at the point of instruction for individual applications. Internet resources and activities are accessed through the Glencoe Accounting Website. Students may take the first semester of the course without taking the second semester, but may not take semester 2 without taking semester 1. MS Excel Spreadsheet software is required.
